Yep, I’m thanking that too lol, but I trust you guys
We’re just a forum people. Would rather trust some reviewers who experienced alot of different headphones and were able to compare them all.
That’s true, I’ve seen Zeos’ videos, also DMS and Joshua. What what get from them is basically this:
- Zeos said the CM MH751 is the best closed-back headphone out there under $200 (as of his review in February 2020)
- Zeos also reviewed both AKGs, and chose the 61 by a lot… But he reviewed these before the CM
- DMS didn’t review the CM, but did both AKGs and preferred the 61 as well, he said he uses these almost daily.
- Joshua didn’t review either.
So even between them, I can’t decided who to listen to…
zeos’s ears aren’t yours though. the tried and true method here is just listening to them. if you lkive in the US you can buy your top 2 reccs and return the one you like the least.
You’re right, his ears aren’t the same as mine, but like I said, I don’t live in the US and my situation is like @SCHUMI4EVER’s: basically a developing country where headphones aren’t easy to find and even when they’re for sale here, they’re much more expensive compared to the US, so I buy from Amazon or eBay and ship form Miami. So buying both and retuning them would be too much of a hassle imo.
Make sure to make use of Zeos’ sound demos. On their own they are skewed nonsense but taken as a comparison they are additional info and people in our position can use every bit.
For instance Zeos did the sound demos for the SHP 9600, Sivga Phoenix and X3 all on the same playlist. If I listen to them each then the SHP 9600 sounds the most exciting to me, the most alive, the one I want. And if Covid didn’t make shipping cost as much as the headphones I would already have a pair but under current conditions getting them would cost around 4-5 times as much.
So find a demo from around the same time he did and compare which you find better or listen for anything you don’t like or where they seem lacking. Yes, this picture will change completely depending on what headphone you are using to listen to the demo but by doing this comparison you can still get a little more info than without.
Another angle to tackle this from is to tell us what you currently have and what improvement you would like? Borrow another headphone from a friend, it can be anything at all, and find out where your headphone falls short.
Oh and let this post count as the official introduction of the SHP 9600 to your consideration list.
Good point, I’ll watch the sound demo for both the MH571 and the K371 and try to decide from there.
I just have some earphones I bought for $7, which is basically like the ones that come default with phones. Also, a few years ago I had the Beats Solo 3, which I regret ever buying. So basically I don’t have anything to compare it to.
Don’t really have any friends who are in the audio world at all unfortunately…
Well I’m looking for a closed-back pair of headphones as you can see on the op.
Thanks for all the info.
Don’t just listen to both of those, that will provide some info yes, but since the playlists are not the same it will be limited. You also need to find another demo he did around the time and listen to that too, just to find out where these do better or worse.
Wait so you have inears? That changes things entirely. Those provide a much more intimate sound. In that case I would actually suggest that you begin by first getting a cheap set of headphones, don’t care about quality for now, just grab any cheap thing. Then you will head whether you even like the headphone experience first.
I say this because I have a set of Huawei inears I got with my P10+ that sound amazing compared to when I plug headphones into my phone. It is an entirely different type of sound though and at the end of the day inears are not very comfortable for long sessions.
I just want you to be aware you will getting a VERY different sound (if you do in fact have inears and I am not jumping to the wrong conclusion).
Doesn’t have to be audiophile since it is just to find the strengths and weaknesses of whatever you currently have. It’s just to provide a comparison.
Ooops sorry, missed that. I had actually intended to only come in here and talk about the MH751 so I only browsed the OP.
Ok, got it!
Hahahaha yeah, I want an over-ear closed back that check the boxes I mentioned on the OP. I don’t want in-ear cause they get uncomfortable and those Beats I mentioned where on-ear I didn’t like that either. That’s why.
Just be warned that the sound is far less “personal” with over-ears. Whatever you get may actually sound worse to you, at least initially, and will almost certainly sound worse than the demo when you listen to it now.
My vote is still the CM just cuz the 361 can be peaky as can the Beyers that people mentioned. Don’t know Meze at all so can’t compare.
the meze classics are fun laid back experience
the akg k553 mk 2 might not be a bad pick here either
Thanks for the heads-up!
Got it, thanks. Although I remember @RiceGuru saying the 371 kinda fixes the peaky treble from the 371, so again, I’ll try to look it up further, read some other audio websites where the compare them and also review the CM. And watch some audio demos for all those headphones.
Those are just over my budget thought (considering taxes and import costs), thanks anyway.
I also forgot. I havent read this whoole thread so forgive me have we looked over the m40x yet with a pad swap to improve comfort and low end? the treble on that isnt peaky at all. a good pad swap adds a bit more of a soundstage and the improves bass for a overall adding more weight to notes overall a nice and pleasant sound. its older and isnt quite as detailed as other offerings but could be a good candidate
Yeah @MezeFrame already mentioned those, but because these will be my first dive into the audio world I don’t think I wanna dive into the modding world just yet, maybe in the future… Thanks anyway!
It’s barely a mod thought to be fair pad swaps especially with these headphones are pretty damn easy no effort at all and virtually no risks
Oh well in that case it’s compelling. Now, does this pad change make it closer to what I’m looking for than the MH571 and K371?
In case you missed it, here is what I want:
so an m40x stock can be uncomfortable but has a balanced neutral sound and in respect to soundstage and imaging is ok but still narrow.
with a pad swap w like zeos’s favorite the sheepskins or the caudio community favorite brainwavz angled pads the soundstage gets a bit bigger and the bass gets a bit more oomph. the bass isnt too heavy but present when needed
I think DMS said in his review of the K361 though that people need to stop buying the M40x because the K361 exist?
