Ah ok my bad, I would say they arenāt too similar in presentation
Gotcha yeah that can get fatiguing on the 1990
Signature wise, the he1000v2 would actually be a tad warmer and smoother than the arya, more full bodied, also more impactful imo. Other aspects would be that the he1000v2 is more spacious imo, and imo is more resolving and refined
IMO bigger stage and just more capable than the arya. Itās also a better value than the arya since you can get the he1000v2 for a similar price used to the arya new, but it is more demanding (but you have a good source so you should be fine with that)
Also to be clear imo none of the he1k or the arya are fatiguing or overly aggressive to me, so really no matter which one you go with you probably wonāt have issues
Yeah you should be good there lol, while hifiman might be brighter leaning in general, they typically arenāt peaky and as forward as like the 1990 can be, there is a smoothness to them (their larger driver modes besides the ananda at least, stuff like the he6 can sound pretty raw if underpowered)
Forgot to ask one thing, can these be all rounders (arya\hekv2) meaning ok with mainstream crappy things too? like tv and youtube basically all listening at home other than quality music. Because with the 1990 I have to change volumes alot but then you lose other stuff in what you hear (poor 1990s lol they getting mocked alot). I imagined the 800s would act similarly to 1990 with mainstream stuff?
They can be, but they wonāt be that forgiving. But honestly I donāt have issues with them listening to eh quality music if you are ok with hearing the flaws they have, but itās not like painful
So I found this cable " LQi " priced better than mooncables and their description of copper vs silver sound is consistent with most cable makers:
The Voda Series UP-OCC copper cable is smooth and engaging. It offers a touch of organic warmth with a slight boost to the bass, but it gives up nothing in resolution or detail. Itās an excellent complement to a brighter headphone like the Sennheiser HD800 or Sony MDR-Z1R.
The Esprit Series UP-OCC silver plated copper cable is neutral and resolving. It offers a transparent window into the music whether it be female vocals, dubstep or Beethoven. Itās clarity and microdetail reproduce accurate aural images and a realistic soundstage. From violin to vocals, tonal balance is faithful to the recording. Bass is extended and tight with no bloom or added warmth.
Can a copper cable really give even slight warmth like they say with things like arya and 800s and not ruin the sound?
I got my Arya on Saturday and in only a few days I can tell Iāve got my endgame. Compared to my Ananda itās a more detailed and lively sound with amazing staging and imaging. Iām keeping these and my AP2000ti and selling most if not all my other headphones.
One thing I might do is get a new amp but I do still like my SP200 a lot. Iām thinking of getting a nice class A amp to go with my SMSL, so if thereās anyone that has used one with the Arya that sounds good please let me know.
I almost went for the $1999 open box HE1000 V2 on the Hifiman store but after seeing Josh Vs comparison video I felt like these would be more my speed and I think I made the right choice.
Iāve been listening to them for probably 6 or 7 hours today and they make my music sound fresh and new even if itās an album Iāve heard 30 times. The separation is next level and the depth to the music is just as good, Iām loving this headphone.
If there was one thing I donāt like about the Arya itās the clamping force. They have the most of any of my headphones and while itās not to hard I do have to take them off for at least a few minutes after a couple of hours. Iām sure Iāll get used to it because I think my HD600 I used to have were tighter and after a while they felt fine.
Got a question about the arya and edition x v2 via pm, so thought I would go ahead and share sone of those impressions here as well in case anyone was curious:
"I have only had the arya and rs08 amp for a few days but have had the hexv2 and liquid plat for a while, so some of my thoughts are not fully formed quite yet. Most of my music is edm, trap, dubstep, house, ambient, etc.
Hex has a tall and wide stage. It has a unique presentation that makes thinks sound grand. The arya takes this one step further in most aspects and imo increases the depth the most. On the other hand, the hex has more slam/impact and rumble; on very bassy tracks where you want that bass to SLAM, the hex delivers more than the arya. IMO its a tradeoff between impact and slam and an unbelievable stage. Just talking about the length, width or height over simplifies what the arya does. It has an unbelievable ability to separate instruments and make them distinct. I can pick up the differences in depth without specifically listening for it. It is so distinct and separated, that before getting used to it, the overall presentation almost sounded incoherent.
For the arya, I prefer the liquid platinum. The rs08 is shaper, brighter, more in your face. Liquid plat is smother, warmer, more laid back and overall tames some of the brightness and sharpness of the arya. For the hex v2, I like both and have not listened enough to have a clear preference.
For that EDM bass, the hex arguably delivers. It has the rumble and an impressive presentation. The arya has an even more impressive presentation but not so much rumble. However, I do love both for edm just the same. It is a different appeal than something like a tr-x00 which slaps you with bass and depending on the mood and track can be better or worse. I would say the hex to me sounded like it was made for EDM, but not for a basshead. The arya doesnt strike me like it was specifically geared to EDM, but I am loving it just the same."
I also mainly listen to electronic music like techno, tech house, progressive trance, and ambient and I feel like the Arya is just about perfect. If they had just a little more dynamic punch to the bass theyād be perfect but the bass they do have is still pretty darn good. When I want a more dynamic lively sound I use my AP2000ti but nothing beats the Aryaās soundstage and imaging which is top-notch. I think both the Arya and AP2000ti have the same level of detail retrieval but the 2000ti being a closed headphone canāt compete with the Aryaās soundstage.
Chronoās review of the Arya, which I largely agree with. In my opinion, he overstated the lack of dynamics a bit, but it is true that the tear-dropped/egg-shaped ear cup HFMās are less in the dynamics dept. compared to Focalās cans as well as to old school HFM cans like the HE-500 and HE-6, but it isnāt as dead as some flatter sounding cans.
