If you are slapping a he6 on a darkvoice don’t expect to do anything good lol, even on powerful headphone amps it sounds rather mediocre lol

It was done for shits and giggles because someone asked me to try it despite me already explaining to them it wasn’t going to sound good at all. Plus, this is with pre-production HE-6 drivers, which are supposedly less sensitive than the 4- and 6-screw variants if you can believe that. Yeah, the HE-6 sounds just okay on the THX AAA 789, I have to run them out of speaker taps from a Crown D-75A or a Crest CA2 to hear them closer to their potential. It sucks that the temp sensor of my Crest CA2 either messed up or died, which means that the cooling fans are running full blast all of the time.

Yeah that sounds about right, mine never leave a speaker amp lol

So the HE6 is essentially a Raal Requisite without the need for an energizer?

Not really, it’s just incredibly inefficient. It can be powered on a decent headphone amp to get volume and something usable, but ideally you want to get a real nice powerful speaker amp if you want to get out what you paid for them for (or more perhaps). Reasons being a very thick diaphragm and gold voice coil traces that really made the driver sensitivity low and appreciate alot of power

The raal just operates at such a low impedance that most amps weren’t designed to drive such a low impedance load like that and therefore struggle. The reason they seemingly need more power is the converter box isn’t the most efficient and would require more power to really get going. That’s why something like the schiit jot-r was created and can drive them very well, because it was designed for the load

Wow. These things are sublime. I heard they were good, but damn!

After only a day I’m already strongly considering selling off quite a bit. Maybe just keep these & the 58xx’s.

Oddly, they sound better on the Asgard 3 than they do on the RNHP (to my ears).

I think the Arya being on the brighter side of neutral probably makes the Asgard 3 a good match, considering it has a slight amount of warmth. There are times that if my Focal Clear get too intense on the RNHP, I will switch right over to the Asgard 3 for the same reasons.

This, I have noticed the THX Amp being very sharp and bright. Love my Arya’s but can’t wait until my V280 comes in to tone it down with the brightness some.

Just out of curiosity, would love to hear how the arya games vs the Sennheiser HD800S.

So these guys need lots of power? Anyone try running them off an ES100 or BTR5? Just curious.

Yeah they need a ton of power. Es100 definitely isn’t enough. BTR5 should be better but still doubt it can get them to their full potential

I just read the revision arya sounds worse or different, someone from another forum was complaining he liked the original better in the bass and treble (bass sounded like a subwoofer or speakers and the revision one removed this effect and lowered treble details for him. Hmmm most of the reviews I read or watched mentioned that speaker bass effect also.

Hifiman representative says they changed the mesh style on the outside in 2019 and found there is no sound change from FR tests and blind listening
The complainer also says he got another pre revision model and confirmed it sounded like the first one he liked, so it seems there is a slight difference.
Also The Headphone Show reviewer mentions less aggressive sibilant tones after the change.

revision arya2

What do you think is it placebo? Anyone here with the new mesh style still feels the subwoofer or the speakers bass effect like the reviews talking about?

I think @GoldenOne heard both so he may be able to comment

Thanks. Hopefully @GoldenOne sees this.

So I’ve heard both revisions. And they sounded 100% identical to me.
Hifiman actually offered to upgrade mine to the new revision for free (seriously hifiman customer support is top notch), but after hearing both I opted to just keep mine as I could not tell any difference at all.

What I imagine is going on is he’s listening to a burned in pair of v1, but a new pair of v2’s.

Aryas exhibit the most change during burnin of any headphone Ive heard. Its not a subtle change, they sound VERY different. Bass tightens up and becomes way more present, treble becomes smoother and more refined.

Meaning if the new revision was not burned in yet, then it would exhibit the differences you mentioned.
I think that’s probably what’s going on.

Not totally on topic but an interesting appraisal by Andrew between the Ayra and HEDDphone

Great. Was worried there for a second. Thanks.

So I got a pair of the Arya. I have the Ananda and well now I get why the Arya are so beloved. I think I might have just joined the cult of Arya, it really is the Headphone Messiah lol
