šŸ”¶ HiFiMan Arya

So, a Huge step up from the Ananda? How would you compare them to the Sundaraā€™s, if you have heard them?

I have not heard the Sundara. The Arya are a pretty big jump from the Ananda. The Arya are like if you fused the Focal Elexā€™s Dynamic Range and the Anandaā€™s sound stage. The Ananda presents music a few feet from you and itā€™s like a wall. Not much happens in the music in the space from the end of the Anandaā€™s sound stage to your ears. Itā€™s very flat and certain parts of the music can overlap. The Arya is very dymanic, so sounds can appear close to you and farther than the Ananda. Because of the Dymanics, you get better imagining and instrument separation as well. The Ananda gives you taste of the Arya, but something like 60%-ish percent of the Arya.

What source gear are you running them off of?

I have the Bifrost 2, SU-8, SP200, and Lyr 3. I mainly use the Bifrost and Lyr.

Hello guys, Iā€™m new to the forum. I am a new owner of the Hifiman Arya. Iā€™ve done about a 100 hours of burn-in, and yet the treble seems harsh. In some fast paced songs and high notes, I just canā€™t stand them. Itā€™s as if, my ear drums are being drilled by a China man
Hoping for suggestions from longtime owners. Iā€™m strongly contemplating about selling for the treble issue alone.
Thanks

One of the reasons they can sound like that is when they are underpowered. What are you driving them with?

Hi,
Iā€™m using a Chord Hugo 2 via Optical. Yeah, I know ppl tend to think of Hugo 2 as analytical, but except for the treble in the Arya, the low end and Mids are full and might even say warm sounding. The treble is extended very well, but very sharp, sibilant and plain harsh. It hurts to listen for more than a few seconds in certain songs.

Iā€™ve hit about ~105 hours as of now. Do you think I should slog on to another 100 to see the treble to improve ?

Have you tried any other amps? From what Iā€™ve read about the Hugo, itā€™s a better DAC than amp and probably wonā€™t help at all with the treble. @M0N can give you a good amp recommendation or it.

I honestly think the Hugo is a pretty solid amp as well as a dac tbh for being a portable, I do think you could give the Arya more amp wise, but the Arya is inherently a brighter headphone so if you donā€™t like that then I would say to perhaps consider something different (it depends on how much you like the rest of the headphones)

I used to own the Audioquest Nighthawk which was a very neutral headphone with a flat treble response. The Hugo 2 paired brilliantly with it. If at all, I have a feeling the treble is peaky in the Arya, which gets accentuated by the Hugo 2ā€™s neutral and transparent sound. Regarding driveability, I think that the Hugo 2 drives it very very well, I go about 50% of the total volume and it gets very loud. The bass is full & as is the mids.

Except for the upper mids and treble, I love the Arya. The best Iā€™ve used. My question is will the treble harshness reduce, if I burn in moreā€¦?

Huh, I would say it had recessed treble, a bit darker than neutral

I could agree

This is likely, a warmer more relaxed amp pairs well with the Arya imo

A bit but at that point I would say itā€™s more mental burn in and getting used to the sound. I think that if you like it, use it some more and see if anything changes for you (it might but it definitely wouldnā€™t be drastic if chances occur).

I think if you are attached to the Arya but the treble is an issue for you, your main choice would be to go for a smoother slightly warmer tilting amp (which depending on the amp could also be an upgrade from the amp inside the Hugo 2), or you could look for a similar headphone with a different signature like an he1000 v2 or hex v2 which are a bit warmer and smoother than the Arya is while sharing many similar characteristics (the he1000v2 is an upgrade from the Arya performance wise imo, the hex v2 is a slight step down technicality wise)

You mean the HEK V2 has a smoother treble ? Iā€™ve read a lot of impressions saying they are comparatively analytical. The Arya has been touted by many as having a warm and smooth sound, none of the reviewers pin pointed the sharp treble, except for maybe Anthony Nyugen from headphones.com, thanks for your opinion. I just got the Arya, So I may take quite the hit, selling them right away. Mine has a mesh over the outer surface of the driver, So itā€™s a revision. Folks talked about the v1 having a sharp treble, So I canā€™t imagine what that must feel like for v1 owners :persevere:

Thatā€™s been my experience, but that being said the he1k is more amp dependant than the Arya so that also plays a role

I would spend a bit more time with them and see if anything changes for you, but if you arenā€™t willing to go for a different amp if the treble still bothers you then it might not be worth it

Iā€™m not so much into EQ-ing since the manufacturer intended sound profile changes, no matter how finely the EQ has been done. In your experience, at how many hours did the treble tone down for you ?

Alright, guess Iā€™ll continue to listen-burn-in, for a while.
Thanks

Me neither, Iā€™m frankly too lazy most of the time lol, I just ran the Arya without EQ and liked it

So I was already used to the hifiman treble, personally a few days of constant listening and it didnā€™t bother me, but I was also using slightly warmer amps and dacs as well

I have had the Arya for about a week and they sound pretty amazing on the Bifrost 2 and Lyr 3. They even sound pretty good on the BTR3K and BTR5. I did buy the Meze balanced cables as the Hifiman cables kind of suck lol

Hey everyone,
i currently use the Arya as one of my Main Headphones (still waiting on the HE6SE) and i want to know some good AMP pairing for it.
I mostly prefer Warmer Headphones and the Arya is just a little bit bright but not really fatiguing for me.
Im using it with Topping D50s and Jotunheim and sometimes the SMSL SP200.
I like the Arya with my AMPs but so many people shit on the Jotunheim calling it v shaped and it had quite the bad review on https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-schiit-jotunheim-and-ifi-idsd-black-label-dacs-and-headphone-amps.3717/

So i dont know what im missing. Im using it single ended and im interested in a XLR cable aswell because it had none included and i have no XLR for that Connection.
