🔶 Hifiman Edition XS

I experienced today the same rumble as you on listening levels and it was not so loud, looks like it is headphone rattling, i have one question is it possible to kill this headphones with those things? With extra power?

If it only appears when the headphone is not on the head, are we not talking about the typical planar air gap behavior?

A typical bump in the bass when the seal is broken. Abyss even sells you this as a tuning feature for their 1266. break the seal for more bass.

are you russian
?

yes it appears only when headphone is not on the head

Can I have your opinion about the Burson Soloist SL MKII for the EDXS?
Thanks!

Then You could test to put them on and slowly lift them away from your ears to see if that’s the rumble you are hearing.

Im Ukrainian, but i speak russion too:)

Sadly i cant check if it appers when they are not on the head, but i can’t hear it while they are on the head.

How is the stock cable on this, worth replacing? I’ve seen this cable mentioned, open to other thoughts

It’s not terrible. Its plain rubbery and flexible. It’s much better than other Hifiman cables, but I much prefer using my Hartaudio cable.

I’m not sure if maybe the cable I got had a bad ground, but it sounded audibly bad and I’ve seen a couple other people say the same. Go balanced if you can, most amps with a balanced output sound better on the balanced out than the single ended and if there’s extra power to be had, then it’s definitely worth it.

Really tempted to try these, having heard both Sundara and Ananda. I miss the latter, but these seem to be ‘better’ sound wise from what I’ve gathered.

Currently have the Atom stack, planning to get a Modius and Magnius combo soon or L50/E50 hopefully and run balanced, thoughts or suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

Funny enough, I’m actually looking at those two for an “endgame” SS stack. Just a tad out of budget for now…

Among the few Hifiman I had, I prefer the stock cable of the 400i 2020 the most actually.
I also have been looking at the cable that you mention. There also a more expensive option, this one:

I would like to hear the opinion of someone who has been using them.

Welcome to the HFGF !

Well built, nice feature set, and more importantly, good sound quality. For the money IMO that is a hard setup to beat.

My first setup was an Atom Stack, I then moved over to a Modius + Asgard 3 stack, then later added a Liquid Platinum amp to that setup so that I could run balanced. It was a decent setup, extremely versatile and sounded good. Took me to my first $1K headphone no worries before I started thinking about needing to upgrade again, and where I went to a Bifrost 2 + Jotunheim 2 stack. I can see the BF2/Jot2 being an endgame stack for you.

cheers!

Welcome to HiFiGuides!

I’m running the Edition XS to lovely volume around noon or 1 p.m. on low gain on my Atom stack. It’s a lovely combo.

Thanks!

I first started with a tiny FiiO DAP, E10K I think was the model? Was around 3 years or so ago, got the Atom stack about a year later and been running with it ever since.

I’m also debating on just getting the Jot2 with a Modius to hold me over until I can get a Bifrost 2. Think that’s the play since I plan on getting a Jot2 to begin with, much less overbearing than going both Jot2 & Bf2 upfront.

Decisions decisions

Thank you!

Good to know they both play well, I wanna spring for these cans asap, so they’re definitely going to get time on the Atom for sure. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
