šŸ”¶ Hifiman Edition XS

Uh, I feel so relived right now. I will watch the full video in some hours. What surprises me is he said there is almost no difference with Xbass. For me it is quite a game changer. Literally no bass vs all the bass I need. But he is running them balanced. Maybe that makes some difference, idk.

So which is it? Weā€™ve got people here saying that theyā€™ve had personal experience with more power making a noticeable difference, and Zeos saying that balanced on the Zen Can is sufficient.

And me too, Zen Can balanced sounds fine to me but I donā€™t have anything more powerful. I can only compared the sound to IEMā€™s (IEM guy usually).

Sensitivity - 92dB Impedance - 18Ī©

Yeah, I canā€™t see anybody who is trying to make the claim this thing needs more power than a zen can as remotely accurate. Thereā€™s a huge difference between lacking power and scaling. Power does not = better sound, enough power just gets it loud enough for listening and stabilizes the natural signature(lacking power of course kills bass sounds muffled, etc etc). You canā€™t just throw a ton of power at a headphone and make it sound better as not only does it get louder you can risk blowing a headphone(especially in the case of lower impedances). While I canā€™t speak on the headphone its not here yet, this is definitely screaming scalingā€¦ the arya has this same factor, sundara and ananda too have this to where they sound better off better equipment.

Better chip, better circuitry, better synergy, etc will cause a headphone to perform differently and either better or worse. I wouldnā€™t be concernedā€¦ if your using an amp/dac and its getting plenty loud and it sounds okay to you then your fine. Donā€™t sweat it.

Having a Sivga Phoenix, edition xs is basically a Sundara with more bass, a little more refined sound and better soundtage?

going by the graph, it looks more in line with the Ananda actually but with a fixed sub bass and a more balanced treble with less dip in the 10k.

Zeos doesnā€™t hear differences between dacs and can only describe amps sound as worm/cold, bruh
He would be splendid with any dac/amp

Iā€™m not saying the Zen Can isnā€™t powerful enough to push them, Iā€™m saying that if you are using the Zen Can and think they donā€™t sound good / donā€™t have good bass or soundstage then that is the issueā€¦ they need more power.

Everyoneā€™s ears are trained different. If you have experienced many high end headphones before and know what they sound like, it will be more noticeable to you. If you are someone new to the hobby and this is your first headphone into the hobby - you donā€™t know what youā€™re missing out on.

What I find peculiar is that Resolve described the XS to be more zingy in the treble region than the Ananda, while the consensus so far has been that the XS is generally less fatiguing and laid back compared to the Ananda. I donā€™t know, maybe on average people have less trouble with the peak on 12k of the XS.

Anyway, I finally ordered these, but I think itā€™ll be a long time before I see them unfortunately

When I was first listening to these, there was a painful peak somewhere in the frequency that aligns with female vocals on the high endā€¦ Iā€™ve had them broken in now for over 80 hours and itā€™s not as bad as it was when I first got them, so I think they smooth out a little bit with burn in. But there is still a peak of sorts

Was really really noticeable on this song:

I see. Well, Iā€™m very inexperienced, so I actually donā€™t know what frequencies bother me the most, but I think I might be a little on the treble sensitive side. I guess Iā€™ll see when Iā€™ll be able to hear them lol

Yea they arenā€™t really bad for treble overall for me, it was just that one song that I literally wrote a note down to go back to later which was: ā€œouch earsā€ā€¦ but treble generally doesnā€™t bother me.

The only time I can say that the peaks were actually overbearing for me and I couldnā€™t use a headphone was when I was gaming with the SendyAudio Aiva and I was playing Fortnite quite some time agoā€¦ the gun shooting sounds and reloading sounds had a certain peak in the metallic sounds that was extremely painful and I thought my ears were going to bleed, so I had to change to another set, and eventually just played Apex Legends instead OmegaLUL

Damn, that sounds painful
Fortunately for now I didnā€™t experience anything that bad, so fingers crossed that Iā€™ll get to enjoy these cans without much trouble

Kind of a long shot but how would they compare to the HD 8xxā€™s?

Definitely. I didnā€™t experience any peaky treble at first but I EQed them using the Edition X v2 auto eq and that brought it out. Iā€™m gonna let it burn for a bit more and see if that helps but Iā€™m also receiving the Bifrost 2 tomorrow which Iā€™ve read might just take that treble peak right off the top. Weā€™ll see

Have my bass boosted by EQ, but these things just put a stupid smile on my face with this song

It definitely depends on the person - 12k doesnā€™t bother me at all, 8k can be a little annoying if it is boosted too much, any sort of boost over flat @ 5-6k feels like sticking a pencil through my eardrum.

For me, any listener fatigue stems from that presence region between 4-6k.
