initial impressions:
Comfort: The headphones are light enough that the stock headband is fine for a couple hours before becoming irritating (HE400se was more like an hour for me), stock clamp is pretty light I was able to increase it a bit by just bending the headband inwards, no issues with the stock earpads on these so far
Sound: these seem like a big brother to the 400se to me (havenât done a/b testing yet) sounding similar but being more open due to the extra space of the cups, came across as a bit sharp initially but I left it playing music for a few hours and it seems to have toned down already
Drivability: balanced on a ifi Zen Dac/Topping A90 only get to around 30% not a significant difference between the two but the A90 had a bit more Sub bass impact,
SE Fiio E10K/ifi Zen Dac sound is very close but the Fiio isnât quite as open
my audio chain seems to make up to a 5% difference (not a lot but noticeable if A/B testing)
(current) conclusion: a potentially great mid tier headphone held back by cut corners, if you love the tuning and arenât bothered by the headband great otherwise mods are likely needed
Just for funsies for people powering these with the zen can. Use resolves optional Bass EQ with xbass turned on and listen to Roulette by machine gun kelly (descently high volume) and try to not let the cans fall of your head
I feel like zen dac bass boost is a bit much not to mention the zen can

Unfortunately where I live Schiit products are not easily available, I would have to resort to import or second hand market. I was oriented towards those two Topping amps because they seem to provide great performance for a decently low price. I think L50 should be enough, but I am considering also A30 pro as a just in case if I were to buy a harder to drive headphone in the future.
zen can bass boost is waaaay less prominent than that of the can though. The dac has more midbass while the can only boosts subbass. dac boost is too much for me aswell.
Hey mate, how are ya doing with your Arya, is it a huge leap comparing to XS?
So sell the Susvara or not?
jk,jk
Though I could see myself picking up an XS. I really, really liked the Edition X v2 I had. Iâll wait for @WaveTheoryâs review and see how it goes. I could also just be feeling sentimentalâŠ
My replacement finally arrived (first set DoA). Erm, so zero burn in, yup, sound pretty good. Gonna give this 24/36 hours burn in and then pit it head to head with my primary music headphone, HE-500.
Thanks for all the details. As for me, I have a Topping D10 Balanced â L50.
I found a good looking 8 core cable on Amazon, but for me it did not change the quality of the sound at all compared to the stock one.
I am using the EDXS with the Topping L50 (connected to the D10 Balanced with a couple of short TRS balanced cables).
For sure I never had issues volume wise, even with low volume recordings, and I think it is powering the EDXS well enough.
For the time being, I am not applying any EQ.
I am using the EDXS stock cable.
If there is anything youâd like me to try, tell me.
This being said, this is my first âaudiophileâ gear, so I cannot make any comparisons and I am curious how other stuff would sound.
For example, even if it wouldnât be an upgrade power-wise, Iâd like to try the Zen Can with a balanced cable.
Thanks a lot, when you have some time if you were so kind to listen to âCory Wongâ by Vulfpeck or âShaolin Monk Motherfunkâ by Hiatus Kaiyote. On my system in the first one the guitar is a bit soft and subdued, in the second one the same thing happens more noticeably with the electric piano. I think itâs mostly due to the mids dip, but I donât know if with better amplification the things improve.
What are some good songs to test these out with?
Iâve been putting these on my head every 6 hours or so during the burn-in and when I last picked them up, Oceansizeâs âCatalystâ was playing. This is a good track for testing instrument separation. After hearing that I skipped to Karnivoolâs âGoliathâ to check impact. Again, quite promising. Almost at the 24 hr burn-in mark. Iâll give this can another 12 hours before I sit down with it.
anyone do any headband mods to these yet? tried a ripoff sennheiser headband pad on it and was still eh currently trying a zmf pilot pad seems to be better so far
Not a mod, but I am using that headband cover I posted about.
For me it saved the EDXS, it has improved both comfort and stability.
mustâve missed it but double sided adhesive with the pilot pad has saved the XS for me stellar improvement
Maybe you like to share a picture of your pilot pad improvement too.
