I used the geekria posted previously but am only using the wrap. I didn’t need more padding, I just wanted it to not slide so much.
using just the stock headband actually gave me a headache after a 2 hour session pilot pad has fixed it for me
I see that Rtings has finally purchased a pair of XS for review.
@ATK , how difficult would it be to remove the grilles on the XS?
I saw your disassembly of the XS when you first got them late last year. How did you do it?
I am interested in plasti-dipping the grey grilles but wasn’t sure if it was worth the effort / risk for something purely cosmetic. I am coming from older circular Hifiman cans where the grilles can be popped off easily. I presume thats not the case with the egg-shaped cans?
Hey bud.
It’s fairly easy but just be careful.
Your plan should work ok. Yeah so it’s basically taking out the whole driver assembly to reach the grills to free them out. They come out from the inside.
Now to disassemble, you first take off the earpads. Then you unscrew the 6 or so screws. Then you use something thin to flick out the plastic holding disc/rings. These are two parts. Then you’ll see a foam lining. Remove it. Basically at this stage you’re at the driver assembly (the magnet/diaphragm sandwich). Carefully shake it out while also carefully pulling out the 3.5mm female connectors which are soldered to the sandwich.
Now you should be left with the cup frame and the headband, with the grills and the thin empty cups with another layer of thin flat foam in between these two.
So the grills at this stage go free. Just be careful. The soft cloth screen is glued to both sides of the driver sandwich so you should be fine, but just be careful not to use any magnetic metal tools near the sandwich to avoid any driver disaster.
So basically the grills are held on between the sandwich and the cups.
You can choose how you’d like to paint or customize the grills at this point and reassemble afterwards.
I’ve wanted to Plasti dip the grills for a while to see if it calms the resonance down. Tell me if you notice a difference in the ringing/resonance!
Looks like I should have this by this weekend provided the shipping goes correctly
damn, they told me monday lol. overestimating to look like the good guy, UPS?
How many hour of burn need?
We all know that the burn does not do a lot but certain over ear can benefit.
For a quality listening, do I need to spend 7 days with burn?
weather has been fudging a lot of shipping lately and more blizzards starting tomorrow (If it goes through the KY → ND route I can keep an eye out lol)
yeah, just woke up to a white out outside the window… Would be nice to receive this on the appropriate date though, highly interested in these cans
interesting that he found them comfortable anyone else agree? lol
They are comfy but only after slightly bending the yokes in, which is kinda dangerous because you could definitely break them lol
I love them, very comfortable (without any changes/mods).
Yes, they are quite comfortable actually.
Curious, anybody try these on the Liquid Plat by chance?
it’s not bad. didn’t tube roll but it’s pretty solid overall. a little loose in the bass but not worth complaining about.
How is the sound leak on the Edition XS? I currently have the Sundara and they do leak quite a bit of sound which is to be expected with open backs of course. Is the sound leak worse than the Sundara? I do have others in the house I don’t want to disturb too much and with the Sundara you can barely hear with the door closed, but I don’t listen at high volumes anyway.
