It is a better option than dx5 (price wise), but I donāt think that the Edition XS needs that much power. I really like the idea of AIO, bluetooth and remote control. So I think that your idea of DX3pro has all I need for much less money (wich I really appreciate)
idk I read something about the dx3+ having trouble with under 20 ohm headphones, should still work but I think thatās the one thing the dx5 is actually better at
I think enough of these has been noted but heres something from me incase anybody was wondering
I will be sending these out soon, courtesy of @Pokrog
HOWEVER, I will first be testing the newer Arya before making a further decision(I have the originals and heard some good things about the new version i believe it also has the stealth magnets? dunno, like literally looked nothing into it just yet). Provided what I have experienced here with the XS I will be doing away with my original Arya and itās what I would call inferior sound to this one. This headphone does exactly what I feel is missing from the aryas in a many ways including the bass and overall tonality. Of course sound quality and things such as detail is better coming off the aryaā¦ but I honestly donāt feel that considering the OG Arya for me was double the price of the XS that this gain of technicalities is worth the costā¦ now maybe the new arya will help keep the aryas on my wall but as it stands this is the top contender for me from hifimanā¦ this headphone is downright fucking superb, my only issue is I really wish it had a harder clamp so I am searching for ways to increase that a bit for later as it slides around too much on my head. I saw some lists on soundstage up above but got a laugh as I saw something like T1 beneath a shp9500 soundstage as well as the 1990 so I disregard those ludicrous listsā¦ however, I also own the HD8XX from dropā¦ this headphone is definitely up there in terms of soundstage its probably the 2nd largest I have next to that headphone with imaging and separation being excellent. This headphone is absolutely worth the purchase for someone searching for this kind of signature out of a planar and is essentially sitting up there with my favorite headphones alongside Aeon 2
The dx3pro+ is running out of current at around 2.2V at 16 ohm (blue lines) . So power would be around 270mw. Looks like at 18 ohm it could be approximately 3V =500mW.
Great write up.
The rtings Soundstage ranking is a little wierd in the middle field.
I changed from HD800S to XS to Arya V2 just to have the middle ground between Soundstage and bass. Value wise of course the XS wins big.
May I ask about Your opinion about power requirements for XS and Arya?
Hmmm, thanks for pointing that out. Now Iām afraid that dx3pro+ may be not enough. Probably volume would be more than enough, but maybe doesnāt bring up to life all the capabilities of the drivers. I will look for other options in other brands too (I donāt discard dx5 or a30pro anyways)
I own the Dx3pro+ and can tell you Topping released a firmware update to address this (I havenāt updated yet). Apparently, this was a toosensitive setting of the amp-overload circuitry.
Found another measurement where it is not load dependent. The date of this measurement is before the update though. Guess not every unit ran into protection mode too early.
Sorry Fixxxer, no Edition XS, but been considering it. Iām primarily iems, but have a few pair of headphones: K371, Koss DJ100, ATH-AD900x, the Koss being the hardest of these to drive, but probably not as power hungry as the XS.
I have an edition XS with me, It gets decently powered well enough out of a Lotoo Paw S1(balanced 4.4mm) for single-ended 3.5mm I have to go around 80-85/100 volume on high-gain mode.
OK so quick update: I pulled the trigger on these and have tried them on my zen stack and on a coworkers a30pro/d30pro stack. I cannot hear any audible improvement with the a30 pro. I think for my usage the zen stack does the job pretty well.
Zen can at 12db gain and volume at about 10-11 oācloc. The a30pro at medium gain and about the same position in case anyone is wondering. Balanced 4.4 cable was used.
Why Ananda?
Sounds brighter, less bass, high(er) clamp, no cup swivel.
Little more soundstage, easier to drive, maybe better weight distribution due to the strap.
