oh yeah, everyone loves wide soundstages. btw, when u get the 58x you will probably be surprised by how narrow it is. i got used to big soundstages coming from pure beyerdynamics so i was quite shocked

I noticed it with Hendrix crosstown traffic so Iā€™ll have to compare when I finally get the 58x

yup, glad ur enjoying them and the soundstage. big soundstage is addictive, and btw it will be something you notice immediately lol. no A/B testing needed, thatā€™s how shocking it is. honestly personally i didnā€™t even know that headphones could have such narrow soundstage (btw itā€™s NOT a bad thing, some people even prefer it and consider it more personal, just something to note)

Cheaper Senns do not have wide soundstages, the chief issue IMO. HFMā€™s tend to have wider ones in just about every case. 4xx has good width, location within is somewhat vague but not an issue at that price.

Any 4XX fans here find the bass a little woolly?

What do you mean by woolly?

yeah, but i mean i could see how some people might consider the narrow soundstage a plus. And by woolly i assume you mean soft or not good? Itā€™s true that when listening to things like rap/hip hop i tend to switch to the 58x but iā€™m pretty happy with the bass on the 4xx for most genres, just think if you want a headphone with particular bass that stands out i wouldnā€™t recommend it. Itā€™s good tho

Still waiting for my he4xx to arrive from China. I am also expecting the arrival of a new set of DT 1990 pro. Which of these is better for gaming do you reckon? I play mostly call of duty and Battlefieldā€¦ Right now I am using DT 990 edition 250 ohms

I think the 1990 would be a fair bit better imo. Also I think the 990 is already better for competitive gaming vs the 4xx, and the 1990 would be a step up from that

That was fast, haha. Thanks Mon. Almost one month waiting for the he4xx :frowning: I am guessing I will be getting both next weekā€¦

Unfortunately the carrier Drop uses only goes by container ship, so it takes about 3 weeks just to cross the Pacific.

wooly = Thick, under damped,

IMO and by measurement, the 4XX doesnā€™t have much bass under 50 Hz, it makes up for that like tons of other gear since the invention of the radio by pumping up the 100-250 Hz area to fool one into thinking its got more real bass.

Over the past 3 years or so, 3 different people I have run into have claimed the HE-400 bass is much better than the HE-500. They might like it more, or the 500ā€™s they heard were damaged or under powered. But I have both here and the 400 bass is ā€œersatzā€ compared to the 500. Ability to reach low, tonality, slam, speed, non-woolyness etc.

Get a test disc or two, and an SPL meter and see for yourself - or get it on the web.

Has anyone EQā€™d these? Is there software that works with tidal?

Iā€™ve heard 2nd hand that it helps. but the low bass - under 30 Hz canā€™t be brought to even.

If you do go into EQ - try for parametric EQ or parametric/graphic over just graphic. Rationale/definitions outside the scope of this post.

To be fair, most headphones canā€™t do 30hz that well in this price range

Iā€™m looking to bump up the 40-100 region ā€¦ I like the detail with the 4xx but prefer the x2ā€™s low end (though I understand why people say x2 has muddy bass now).

Yeah you could most likely do that just fine with the power you have on tap with the xduoo

I think itā€™s at the post office so maybe the bass boost on it will be sufficientā€¦ youā€™d think tidal would have an eq feature though considering its target demographic.

Ah, well I think you may be more satisfied with the bass once you get the amp anyway lol. Also yeah idk about tidal and what they decide to do
