You definitely have a different unit, I don’t doubt yours is different than others.
Yamaha YDP-2006 …
Yeah, sorry, I’m not getting crap here, but at other sites.
Interesting you are going with a digital hardware eq
It was cheap for a parametric. It’s not meant as a perm. Since my PC croaked a year ago I’m all CD - hence no cheapo on-line EQ. And I don’t do apple. Liniux or Win - yes, but no time to set up a server right now.
Gotcha. I mainly use hardware analog eq or software, I really don’t use a digital hardware eq very often (I have one but it’s more used for io purposes rather than a eq)
Analog unless you get really pricey seems too colored. I’m torn between an easy music site and a bit perfect Linux - when I get to doing it.
Yeah I can see that. Most of my eq’s are designed to color the music anyway because of their design lol
People think I am a crank and a fool for not liking anything I’ve tried from Beyerdynamic. No offense taken here. I had done some research before buying the 6se, but admittedly not as much as I normally do. I knew they were rough to drive, but if driven properly had the ability to sound really great, but I was primarily reading posts that came out around the launch of the se and not the most recent ones. My bigger concern was/is that Hifiman is continually doing whatever they can to erode the trust their customers have in them. Honestly, even if I did get one of the ok headphones from the Adorama batch I’d be really hard pressed to trust them on something like a HEKv3 or Susvara regardless of the praise the community heaped on them
Well, I can pretty much say that once you get up to the he1000 or susvara range I don’t think they would mess with that. I mean, with my purchases you would think I would be VERY trusting of hifiman lol
I dunno. I’ve read a lot of bitching about the price increases from v1 to v3 on the HE1000s and what was being changed to justify them
By he1000v3 do you mean the se? I do agree the sound of the se vs the v2 wasn’t large enough for the initial asking price of the se, but prices have dropped to reasonable asking now for the most part
yes, I meant se. And that kind of is the issue I’m referring to. Too many revisions happening too soon for too high of a price jump. While most feedback is generally positive of their higher end stuff, it’s like they can’t leave well enough alone. As soon as something starts selling well and receiving decent word of mouth, they immediately try to raise the price with an often minor cosmetic change. Other forums are full of users who just feel like they were burned by the company
I can see that, they push out new headphones fairly often. I guess I don’t know how I will feel when the shang v2 comes out lol
Shit, I’d be annoyed if I were you as a 6se owner to see the current price drop. On the other hand, if it’s a lesser model cashing in on the praise of the established same name, that’s shitty too. Add in all the QC issues people have had (although they have seemed to have improved on that front) t’s hard to feel a lot of brand loyalty when you consistently see them operating the way they do.
I’ve really enjoyed hifiman products up to now, and have met Dr. Fang Bian and he’s a nice and pretty interesting guy, but it’s hard to see myself buying another hifman product unless they release something crazy (which I don’t see happening anytime soon). Just because I like their products does not mean I am loyal to a brand. I have so many other brands in my collection that I can reasonably say I don’t really have any brand loyalty tbh. I value the product more than the brand
I have been brand loyal to HFM because:
- Personally, never had QC issues
- Like that the resale sinks pretty fast, so you can see and feel that you’re getting value
- They make a lot of cans, and I really like some of them,
OTOH, I see how they have cut value in purchasers of first run products. So I already knew not to buy say an Arya for $1500, because 18 months from release they’ll be under $1k new and maybe $750 used. Even bigger drops have been seen for HE5SE, HE6SE, HEX v2, HE-560.
New lesson: Beware of HFM when they cut prices and use a particular on-line retailer to sell them at a big price drop. I think their mindset is - if they want an $1800 can for $700 we’ll give them a can that
is at least 7/18ths as good as the original, and perhaps much better (caveat emptor).
I have five HFM cans, down from six (HE5SE sold). Of those left: I only suspect the HE6SE suffers from this issue, EQ looks to arrive tomorrow, we’ll see.
Watching that review was really interesting. I’ve yet to see a Z vod of him genuinely angry like that over a set of cans. That being said, I really ought to watch more lol
I wonder if his thoughts will really change regarding the sound, from his description, it’s really V-shaped, but something about the tuning seems to be throwing him off or something.
