šŸ”¶ Hifiman HE5SE

I mean I would be pissed too if I got them and thatā€™s what they sounded like lol. They are fairly v shaped (but not in a bad way from the pair I heard)

how many companies shoot themselves in the foot like this? make a good headphone, make an unannounced change and turn it into crap?

For manufactures today for headphones I donā€™t know tbh. Hifiman apparently does lol. The topping dx3 pro had a silent revision that reduced the sound quality but that was only one occurrence

Super review (long). The cable does indeed suck. Sundaras are indeed better than the HE5SE. He says they are out of phase, I say the backside of every note sounds like it was cut off. Either way, we both hate them.

The HE5-LE which some say is THE model for the HE5SE, which have very spiky highs, maybe 20% of the time sound like music. Bass, deep bass, serious midsā€¦ but the HE5SE just doesnā€™t sound like music.

He is not allowing for unit to unit variability - or rev to rev - too many people have said too much good about the HE5SE and HE6SE for some of them, not to be really good or even great.

If his pair are like mine, they are not v shaped. They are more llke square root shaped. They start to fade off at 70 Hz, they are doing almost nothing by about 45 Hz. Thatā€™s no V. Yes the treble is a spikey mess - I agree.

wellā€¦even if they only do it once, itā€™s enough to ruin a reputation and make everyone suspicious of future productsā€¦

Look around the web at the 560, HE5SE, and HE6SE - there is plenty of evidence that they have silent revā€™d us pretty good.

Yeah all the initial reviews and units are very positive (including myself), but immediately then turn negative, it has to be a silent revision at that point

honestly donā€™t understand how companies actually expect to get away with dirty tricks like that. <_<

IDK either, it does make me mad, but I am realistically not as mad as other people because I didnā€™t get burned

Its like the great Calzone place that downsized them (quite a bit) w/o a price change, or the other pizza joint that went from great sauce to some cardboard derivative. Both true, both within the past 2 years.

Itā€™s up to the consumer. You doinā€™t care or donā€™t notice - or you do - then take action.

Lol yeah I have had a few great Italian places around me go from top to bottom within a year due to poor management and cost cuttings

For me, I really donā€™t think I am going to buy another hifiman product anytime soon unless they can somehow outdo themselves with their totl, but I donā€™t see that happening

oof idk if my 4XXs are gonna end up being screwed over because of these quiet revisions, but if Iā€™m gonna be in the market for another headphone, itā€™s either gonna be the Sundaras, or something that isnā€™t Hifiman

The 4xx is fairly safe in my experience, the sundara as well. Itā€™s when you see a v2 or it drop significantly in price is when you start to worry

Even if they do have a good few headphones stilllā€¦ there are so many good option from other companies. They used to be the affordable alternative to Audeze for Planars as wellā€¦ now we have monoprice, SendyAudio, and Blon. Audeze is even bringing stuff down in price. Why even touch their higher end stuff when Mr Speakers keeps innovating and releasing better and better stuff?

I mean, I would take the sundara over the sendy, blon, and the monoprice lol. Currently I wouldnā€™t want a mrspeakers unless itā€™s the aeon 2 (which I recently picked up). Not trying to suck off hifiman here but I do think they still have great products at a great price (but not all of them)

Sundara over the Sendy Aivaā€™s, really? Interesting. Well fair enough, then.

How are the Aeon 2? Iā€™ve been waiting to hear impressions on them, but those could be a potentially near-term purchase depending on reviews for me.

I really like them, a big improvement over the original for sure. They are super comfy, and have a nice even sound. Much more portable as well now. Although they still like a beefy amp. I now use them as a office can in the closed rotation with the elegia

That sounds very promising =)

idk, the more i think about it the more i dislike V shape cans. I never liked a lack of midrange. And yeah i really distrust Hifiman now. I got the Anada cause they have the largest driver. but unless they do something else different or unique i think im gonna steer clear of hifiman in the future.
