šŸ”¶ Hifiman HE5XX

you can get a HFM headband from Adorama for a very good price, compared to from HFM directly.

These need better pads, the fitting is super weird, some soft memory foam might help to get a nice seal.

Do not want to criticize you.
Just note something in your contribution.
The idea to use the bass boost with the Ifi is also very good.
I see only one mistake in your experiment.
You canā€™t use one Beyerdynamic as a comparison and the others if they are non-planar.
As cross comparison okay.

If then it would be good to leave the church in the village at the end and then really compare your He4xx with the He5xx like you said.
That would be the most important thing in the end.

The simple reason is that most of your listeners are dynamic drivers and not planar and the drivers have different characteristics with pro and cons.
You canā€™t compare them so directly with each other in the end, also because the dynamic drivers are more dynamic than planar ones.
It will be interesting to compare Planar with Planar, just as a side note without really wanting to be a smart-ass.

Okayā€¦

Oh? I ā€œcanā€™tā€?

Beyond the pros and cons of the technology, I fail to see the issue.

Thatā€™s kinda what I was doing. Granted, I havenā€™t had the Dekoni Blue but for a month, maybe two, but itā€™s probably been used the most in that time. I also gave myself a day or so to get re-aquainted with the sound of the stock pads on all three amps. They ARE planars. Iā€™ve had the K550 the longest, and I got the DT990 Pro not long after. Iā€™ve had them for 2 years or so. I wanna say about June of 2018. I know how they sound to my ears, but still kept listening to the same list of songs so I understood how each song sounds on each of those headphones.
The point of these headphones was looking at how the sound, fit, AND feel of these three compared to the 5XX. Another intent was that they where all supposed to be in roughly the same price bracket, though I hadnā€™t realized the DT990 Proā€™s price had dropped.

???

Youā€™re right. Let me drop everything, drive 2.5k MILES back to school in a car I do not have, pick up my 4XX and drive my happy ass back.

I would disagree, as the majority of headphones that are within a greater range of peopleā€™s means have dynamic drivers. Not to mention, if you look at IEMs, they are almost all either dymamic, or BA. There are very few exceptions to this.
Oh, and please donā€™t make me bring speakers into this either.

I can, and I did.

Well, that is one of the benefits of dynamic over planar. This isnā€™t to say there arenā€™t other benefits of dynamic or that planar doesnā€™t have itā€™s fair share of benefits either.

The Dekoni Blue, which is just a re-branded T50RP MKIII with a slight tuning difference, IS planar, and WAS included in the comparison.

As a general rule I think ur right. But I will say that my world is shattered as that dosent seem to always be the same, since I got the lcd 2 prefazor I was SHOCKED by the amount of slam it has and by how organic it sounds. Which are two characteristics that I didnā€™t find with planar due to the unnatural speed and decay on them. But now that I heard the lcd 2 prefazor wow, itā€™s the most organic sounding headphone Iā€™ve listened to with dynamics that rival many of my headphones. I will say tho that indeed there are some distinct planar vs dynamic differences still at the end of the day

Lololol I was confused too but apparently he fully uses Google translate for English (itā€™s in his bio)

Hello
Yeah, itā€™s a German methaphor.
And more or less means not to exaggerate if you like.
The translators sometimes do strange things,.

I had the He4xx myself and as a planner I found it not bad.
Since it was too dull for me I knew that this was a voting thing.
And most of all it goes better.

At the moment I have the impression that especially with Hifiman nothing has changed except the optical.
Maybe itā€™s a paranoia of mine but I donā€™t read anything that makes this one special and itā€™s quickly compared to current models.

If you take others like Audeze, Zmf or the Aeon which cost more you will only report positive things with improvements.

If I had to bet my money now I would bet on the Sundura or the Monolith, spontaneously and from the gut feeling and also after reading Mońs review.

Those are completely unfair comparisons in both performance and price.

That basically was one of the conclusions of M0Nā€™s review.

First, its not a review lol, just some scattered impressions, 2nd, I still like the 5xx but the sundara is more refined and capable, while not as fun it is higher preforming in most ways besides midrange timbre imo

Comparing different headphones of different types ā€¦ well, if I am trying to make a purchase decision between different headphones of different types, I donā€™t see a way around it, myself. However:

I have never removed a church from a village. And definitely, I would not recommend driving long distances in a car you donā€™t have. That never works out.

Hifiman people, what do I need to know about the ā€œblu tackā€ mod?
Has anyone done this yet on HE5xx?

Yep, after sitting with itā€¦ would take the sundara over it any day of the week, especially since finally getting a sundara that hasnā€™t broke on me lol. Pretty much $30 difference but I feel sundara is the higher performing headphone in this case

Anyone have the he560 v4 or other version that can compare it to the he5xx?

Ok, I just found that in an SBAF thread. :flushed:

How did they do it? just take a couple things of blutak, kneed it and stretch it?

And then apply the blu-tak along the border of the inner opening of the baffle as shown in takato14ā€™s post:

Just tried itā€¦ It helps a littleā€¦ Not much, but a little. I donā€™t know that itā€™s enough to be worth it though.

Probably worth it for everyone here watching the Bass Gods Approved thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there a post in particular youā€™re talking about?
