Hifiman HE6SE For $700

You will plug the speaker wires directly from the amplifier into the HE adaptor. the 4 pin xlr is in the front and you plug your headphones directly into it. The output is not balanced, but internally the grounds are wired in a such a way as to make it safe for most amps out there. I read a little something more about why it was done this way but can’t remember what it was.

Avoiding that adapter, what is the best method? Ive also read that it degrades signal/sound quality, but havent seen any numbers on that.

I don’t think it degrades the quality much at all imo. I have tried a straight cable that was just speaker terminals to an xlr and they sounded identical

Just found out this guy lives within 20 mins of me, https://www.ebay.com/i/113437046309 I may just see if I can locally pick up an adapter like that, except with tinned ends and call it a day.

Amp here https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=37938 If it works nicely ill stick w/ it or upgrade it. We’ll see.

If this manages to not sound bad, I may have found a solution for the people who just wanted to not spend all of their adorama savings at once :beers:

Did you decide on an amp?

do these require a speaker amp?

You prefer the Bellari EQ570 Audio Equalizer to the Schiit Loki tone control?

Bellari bass bump at 60hz, shiit at 20hz, i wanted the bellari instead. If shiit upper and midrange was at different hz i would put that in line too.

Also, Bellari has given me surprising amount of value for the cost. I’m pleased with performance

what do you think of this:

are all equaizers equal in sound quality?

I sent back one SMSL eq and gave away the JDS labs. Neither was good for me. Had i run across that Behringer i would have tried it early on, especially via Amazon, w/great return policy.

why did you send them back? did they mess up the sound quality?

I don’t need much eq and almost never bump anything but 60hz. Most often it’s off, or just providing a bit of voltage bump for the power chain, which does slightly warm up the sound. ( i find that pleasing and can easily bypass bybturning unit off) Induces zero hiss, and bumps low end midrange bass just enough where i desire it on most headphones. 99% times off for speaker use. Make sense? Completely personal prefference. Most audiophiles scoff at it’s use…whatever.

Smsl was just bad, knobs induced nasty scratching noise. JDS labs was clean but just didn’t do what the Bellari did for my set-up. Also, i liked the red color of the Bellari so much it stayed no matter what.

Fun fact, i almost gave up on the Bellari pre-amp. It initially had a scratchy pot on the volume which was driving me nuts. I fiddled with it and put it in and out of the chain often. One day the scratch just went away…hmmm? No idea why. Anyway, i pulled it in and out of chain for weeks until i needed a damned switch and could not find one i liked. I studied it over and over and then did something crazy, i reversed the inputs and outputs. Walla! Yay, little bugger worked perfectly and matches my stack! Fuck yeah, win win! Now it’s a keeper.

I actually think they want more power than the he6

damn, i need a better amp
