Have you tried it with a single ended cable just in case the cable died?
yes, tried SE and multiple sources. I tested the sources w/ another pair of headphones and the sources are good.
Just as an update, I continuity tested the adapter I made and It was done properly, Its likely that the damage was done during the brief 10-30 seconds that the amp was run in bridged mode, putting 450W into the suprisingly weak looking 30AWG or so internal wiring of the HE6SE. One thing of note, in the few minutes I got out of the HE6SE running through the amp in stereo mode, the headphones sounded pretty good and there wasnt much noise/distortion like I was worried about.
Is there anything you can do to bring them back, or are you just fucked? I wouldn’t know how to repair anything if it came down to it
I peeked at it, but I wasnt sure if all the wiring to the driver was damaged or not, if all the wire was fried I think I would need to take apart the driver assembly, which I dont think I am skilled enough to do. I havent really found or looked at teardowns of the HE6SE. Im considering being a dick and RMAing them.
definitely try to RMA it
Just don’t mention that you used your diy adapter and that amp lol
“yeah I uh, connected these headphones to a car battery. Can you help me out?”
this was the first headphone I bought from them, but I’m pretty sure Adorama is known to be an outlet for companies to move overstocked items at a discount. Hifiman isn’t exactly known for their driver reliability either, so I can’t see it being a major hurdle
did you ever end up trying that oratory eq? I thought it sounded good even from a “lower powered” amp like the THX AAAs
I really only use EQ when something sounds broken to me, like most songs on my LCDX-Cs. If I didn’t have the vintage Marantz I may have tried it, but I like the sound out of it’s headphone jack, and even more using the speaker adapter off of the speaker outs. Not sure what it is about good vintage amps, but their output measurements must have been measured very differently than they are with today’s standards
