Hifiman HE6SE For $700

If I like the one I got, I will most likely check out the aeolus tbh. I just really wanted something a bit higher end to get the idea of the best zmf can do (well at the moment)

Check out some other reviews on the Verite. Z is maybe the only reviewer I ever saw that wasn’t blown away by it.

Edit: the pads make a very big difference with the ZMF headphones. I don’t think he was using the correct ones for the Verite

Thx 887 size vs Monolith Unity 450 for reference. Will be making the speaker tap to balanced xlr adapter tomorrow though, so I will report back.

edit vertical height is about the same as well, just to clarify.

In terms of best one to get, my understanding was that each of them are different enough in tuning that there is no clear cut best. I could have saved up for a verite, but I judged that an aeolus would be more to my taste after lots of reading up on them (and I was right, I love them). There are people that own all of them and some like the aeolus the most, some auteur, some verite. I find that really interesting. The verite should still be, however, technically the best in terms of what’s in it.

Btw, speaking of woods, I had been thinking of getting the blackwood ltd. aeolus until I saw the bid for the one I ended up getting. From pictures I thought the sapele was too bright and I would’ve liked a darker wood, but in person at least with the one I’ve got it’s a lot darker and far more more beautiful than I expected it to be, also matches my furniture somehow. (It was totally meant to have always been here ^^)

Very curious to see what it sounds like (especially through the ha300). Hopefully I enjoy it and get more experience with zmf lol

I’m curious about his Pendant tube amp, as they claim its so silent you can run iems off of it, but at $2k I think I’d just as soon save up for the ha300. I love those giant 300b tubes

They sound awesome. It’s hard to find a flaw/nitpick with it imo.

Adapter assembled, testing sound now.

There is distortion somewhere in the chain. Im assuming its the monoprice unity amp as I am currently using a THX 788 as the DAC and I have consistent noise/distortion. It could also be the adapter I made with wire I had on hand, but its still most likely the AMP. I actually like the “underpowered(THX877)” HE6SE with oratory eq though so I suppose I either will be doing that or hoping the monolith m1570 is actually quality.

EDIT, noticed the amp was in bridged mode and not stereo, I will re-test.

I don’t usually EQ, but these would likely be a headphone to do it with with all their quirks. I will check out the oratory settings on my non-Marantz sources.

FUCK, it looks like my he6ses gave up the ghost. Im really confused as to how. There are no shorts in my wiring and connector etc… and I was running it at less power than others have.

Really Really frustrating

Acckkk, I was worried about that. Did you read the DIY articles I posted for you referencing grounding styles in the amplifiers and how they affect the wiring and caps you use to attach the headphones?

yes, followed the first link

its especially embarrassing as I am an electrical/computer engineering student LMFAO, but yeah I am pretty certain I did it correctly. Ive just popped open the grills and the wiring to the drivers looks Ok so im not sure whats up. Can someone send a photo of theirs for reference?

Shit, they aren’t working with the THX either? possible cap blown in headset? I can’t find a wiring diagram for the HS6se at the moment still looking for you

Im looking at pictures on headfi where people have replaced their grills, it looks like my headphones are wired different than theirs are as well.

Only thing that I think couldve happened, is that one of the ground solder joints was bad and didnt actually ground like I wanted it to. I thoroughly checked my joints, but it is possible that I did a shitty job regardless.

They could be shorted because of ground miswiring

made sure to follow the balanced pinout, I just think there was a bad joint somewhere

.

aka i fucked up real bad
