šŸ”¶ Hifiman HE6SE

Any idea when these will be available at a reasonable price again? I was going to buy them @ $650 or $700 but @ $1800? Hell no. To much for a headphone that needs extensive modding and extremely powerful expensive amplifiers.

theres one in used excellent condition right now on the adorama link for $589. you gotta click the little dropdown box and change it to used. usually used just means they got a return that someone opened and didnā€™t have the power for lol

If someone has done an Audeze Headband mod on these can you please post a photo? Iā€™m going to attempt it in a few days and I have not seen It done on the HE6-SE. Iā€™ve only seen it done on the HE500s. I really just would like to see how the screws are on the sides of the yokes.

Just waiting for the headband. Iā€™ll post a picture in a few days to a week when it comes in

i wouldnt say extensive modding, just got mine and they are great no EQ needed my ananda needed EQ to not be to sharp . all you do is pop the grills off if you want. these are a decent amount better then ananda in detail and mids and bass. more comfortable and seem better build. crazy good deal under 1000$ some hybrid XL pads and a HEX grill mod and you are set for end game. im running on only 2 watts off heresy and its plenty loud at max but risk clipping so need better amp and im sure dynamics will be even better but its already better than ananda in every way off 80$ amp

Just got the Audeze headband on. Comfort is great and they sound really good on the Singxer SA-1. Have an Ares II on the way to replace the Soncoz LA-QXD1.

Edit: I think Iā€™m finally done modding these. I just wish they were black, not dark blue.

how easy was getting that Audeze headband on there?

I imagine it would be much easier than what I had to go through to get this thing on here. The headband I have was used previously on a different headphone. It goes to say it wasnā€™t stock by any means. I also didnā€™t have all the parts I needed to get the yokes to sit right.

Edit: in the end it worked great and the comfort is greatly improved.
I donā€™t mind posting pictures or being asked questions if anyone else plans on doing this to their HE6SEs.

I bet you could get replacement black or silver earcups from an he400i 2020 for dirt cheap through hifiman directly.

A very good idea. Although I have no clue how to do a driver replacement into an empty earcup. Iā€™d be dead scared I would break the driver.

@VielenDank, I just purchased these this past week (along with a Krell KST-100 amplifier).

The Audeze headband mod is very appealing to me, as I loved the fit of Audeze headphones.

Whatā€™s needed to use the Audeze gimbals?

To attach the yokes to the driver housing, I ended up using the screws from the default HE6SE headband. I added some 3mm rubber rings to go around the plastic part sticking out on each side of the cup. You have to bend the yokes a bit to get them to fit, but the end product is sturdy enough.

what material did you use behind the grill? im nervous keeping mine open with my hair or something getting in but then again it doesnt seem like there is much to be done considering dust will still get in.

Link to headband?
i read you neededto contact an Audeze rep for some part

That is the craziest looking Cavali hybrid. Please tell me what that combo is I need to buy that tube adapter setup

Does the HE6SE have gold traces like the susvara?

I use 2 sheets of 100 percent polyester behind the grill. It doesnā€™t change the sound compared to leaving them completely open.

The hardest part about completing the headband is finding the yokes/rods. I attempted to buy the yokes/rods off of eBay and Hifi Heaven 2 separate times, but both orders were canceled.

Bloomaudio had them in stock for about a day on March 17th, but quickly ran out of stock. If you give their support an email and ask about when theyā€™ll receive more stock of the yoke replacement kits, then they should be able to give you an estimate fairly quickly. The headbands themselves were fairly easy to find, I purchased mine off of Audezes site about a month ago.

The pictured tube is a Tung-Sol 6C8G. 6C8Gā€™s can still be found at very affordable prices and they have the same heater voltage and current draw as the stock 6922 tube. As for preferences, my top two choices are Tung-Sol and Sylvania 6C8Gā€™s. The Tung-Sol for its soundstage and the Sylvania for its timbral qualities. I own National Union, Ken-Rad, and RCA (meatball logo) 6C8Gā€™s and I find them to be second best to the Tung-Sol and Sylvaniaā€™s with the RCA being the worst of the lot (dry sound). I enjoy the 6C8G over the stock tube. Just my opinion and YMMV.

Hereā€™s what I use:

  • 6922 to 6922 socket saver. You can find these on ebay, but the best one is the one built by tubemonger. The tubemonger one is truly a socket saver and it will be difficult to remove once inserted into the CTHā€™s tube socket (have a pair of rugged needle nose pliers ready). The Chinese-made ebay ones are way more easier to swap out, but their QC may be spotty. If you go with a Chinese-made one, then please unscrew the socket and look at the soldering job to make sure that thereā€™s no solder that bridges any of the pins, which will cause a short-circuit. Iā€™ve bought Chinese-made socket savers and adapters before and all of them have been fine. Again, YMMV

  • 6F8G/6C8G to 6922 adapter. I bought mine from ebay.

Now, since this is an HE6se discussion, donā€™t expect the 1W at 50ohms CTH to drive it well. Still, I find the CTH to be pretty good when it comes to my other more sensitive planars (compared to the HE6) like the Arya, HE500, and LCD-2.

If youā€™re not pushing 800wpc, its not enough:

Iā€™ve always like the Krells Iā€™ve heard, and look forward to your impressions with the 6SE. I just saw this behemoth and had to share
