šŸ”¶ Hifiman HE6SE

Never mind I Iā€™m reading backwards lol

So, do the HE6seā€™s no longer sport the internal dust filter that the original HE-6ā€™s had? Pictured below is my 4-screw version:

Backside of my other HE-6 (supposedly a transplanted 4-screw driver, could be a 6-screw driver):

I donā€™t use them grill-less however. Hereā€™s more photos of the transplanted HE-6 driver from the previous owner: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/bwiq2g/making_the_hifiman_he6_comfortable_mod/

Not sure. Didnā€™t pay too much attention to the he-6 so I didnā€™t know that was a thing. Something Iā€™ll look into

They sound much better and much bigger without the fabric in the cups. I reverted the mod back to being completely open. I may need to find a thinner alternative.

yeah i have no idea what would work best but i really love the way they sound wide open.

Every time I light these up they impress me even more. No eq necessary imo. The Cardas clear light cable is a great match, Mellowed out the highs a bit. (the nos 1578 valve is magicā€¦ but even on the ss the highs are tamed)

Thinking about an SPL phonitor x amp. Voltair rail driving 3.5 Wpc balanced at 50 with a 24db gain. Reviews are favorable in testing with with the susvaras, just dont see much chat on spl equipmentā€¦

maybe the $2500 cost of entryā€¦hmm.

:+1:

At that price you can get yourself some real nice used poweramps

Itā€™s meh with a susvara imo

Edit: seems that time broke lol

Edit 2: time has corrected itself now

I now have two Parasounds Zamps V3 hooked up in Mono. Thatā€™s 90wpc into 8ohms. The HE6 sounds pretty amazing and may very well be the best sounding overall headphone I have ever heard.

I put 2 very thin sheets of 100% polyester fabric over the backs. It doesnā€™t affect the openess of the he6se v2s but it should protect from dust/lint.

iā€™m gonna try that and if it doesnā€™t sound right iā€™m just gonna give up lol

I hope it works well. I just paid about 1-2 dollars for some polyester at a fabric shop. I think yours will look better.

Iā€™ve seen someone put a piece of fabric from their stocking. Maybe itā€™s worth a try. I personally never tried it tho.

After using a pretty similar piece of fabric for a few days I donā€™t think the difference is really noticeable. Definitely happy with it

im about to join this club coming from the ananda and a heresy to a new Jot 2 and he6se cant wait. hopefully the Jot 2 will be enough. i think it will since others said it sounds great. any impressions vs the ananda or arya? a lot of people say its better than both the he6se v2 to be precise.

its way better than aryas and anandas imo. aryas stage a little better (and i do mean only a little) but dont image as well and i havenā€™t found anything that can slam like the he6se (albeit with eq, though it does just fine stock but holy crap can it slam with eq). detail is off the charts and the jot should do just fine.

this is the comment i was looking for haha thanks

When the HE6 are properly amped then yes they are better than the Arya or Ananda. Iā€™m not sure if the Jot 2 will be enough, the Lyr 3 wasnā€™t. Adoramaā€™s return policy is pretty forgiving, so you might just try them out.

true. i feel like 4 watts is a ton of power. ive heard 6 is optimal . im just hoping to get 85db or so and i think i can do that. i dont think ill be able to rock out with full dynamics though. maybe the lyr 3 would be better we will see. hasnt even shipped yet. schiit is on huge back order i guess.

I have used the HE6 on a Liquid Gold X, Lyr 3, and Singxer SA-1: They all distort in high when listening to lossless files at 75db. A stereo amp that ended up being around 7w at 50ohm did help, but when I got a 2nd one put them in mono to get 14/15w, was when I felt that the HE-6 was performing well.

thats wild . isnt it measured 84-86db per watt? you would thing 5 watts class A with with singxer would get you to 85-90db . we will see! i heard the new one is slightly more efficient
