šŸ”¶ Hifiman HE6SE

Would you consider the DT 880 600ohm in that camp??

Definitely not lol, that is a picky headphone considering itā€™s price, but a ton of amps can drive them excellently, I wouldnā€™t want a speaker amp for these, itā€™s more sensitive to quality than quantity imo

HE6se delayed a dayā€¦ fedex slowed down due to weather. Gave me a chance to pick up a balanced cable and set the HPA2 up for 0 attenuation. New iFitIt kit comes in handy.

Fedex came thru-

Picked up a set of these cans from TRM audio. Dunno yet -

Clarity is there. Plenty loud. Def have more performance where the Argons lackā€¦ Mids and Top are both very present and have amazing detail. Almost too much. Jumped outta my seat when the opening hi-hat hit on Billie Jean bwhahaha Sailorā€™s Bonnet is amazingly emotional listening to that fiddle sing. Pork Pie is sweet and sentual.

BUT seem to be missing the bass hit I was expecting. Its present, just not a strong focus. Maybe its being use to the slam on the Argon 50s. (and the rumble). Money for Nothing, Way out West and Watermelons in Easter Hay sound fantastic. Schism never sounded more clear. Just a bit lacking on low end.

Pads are super comfy but i see they are angled slightly, more like the Dekoni Elite hybrid. Not 100% certain these are the stockers. Weight and clap is not an issue. Like my Helmets tight on my bikes haha

Possible break in needed? ā€¦ hellā€¦ for being sold ā€˜pre-ownedā€™ these are in pristine condition. ā€œless than a year oldā€ Absolutly no wear marks on the headband, no signs of wear on the adjustors, pads cable or box.

Maybe its the Amp, Dac, cable, pads, grills, room temperature, atmospheric pressure, moon phase, hahah etc. etc.etc. comboā€¦ loves having headroom and begs to make ur ears bleed. Power hungry is no joke. Oh yeah, these can hurt you.

Worth $1800, No. Worth the $890 in pristine condition? need more listening ā€¦ only 750 made so prob a keeper to grow into. Def intimidated by them and what they are capable of atm

Going by your posted numbers for the HPA2, 1.4W at 60ohms is not going to cut it with the HE6se. Bass is going to be attenuated and thin-sounding. The treble is going to be harsh and unrefined.

The guy I bought these from said he got them new and put like 2 hours on them. Iā€™m thinking these really need burn-in because they honestly keep sounding better to me.

Iā€™ve already repurposed the Marantz amp that I had bought to drive these, so I got a Crest CA2 500W 2ch amp for a good price because it was recommended elsewhere. Going to give it another try with an even more powerful amp, as well as replace the grills and stock pads. Iā€™ve seen many people recommend DCA Ether Angled pads, so went with those.

These honestly sound more ā€œclearā€ to me in the treble and upper mids than my focal clears, but Iā€™m really lacking on the low-end with the current setup, hoping the mods and amp can open it up.

Either way, this headphone is like a rabbit hole unto itself. Iā€™m enjoying the hunt though.

Same experience . burn in def opening 5em up. Clatrity is outstanding, but soft on bass unless a true bass heave track. New grills coming and thinking about the fenestrated leather dekoni pads

Pretty great price if these arenā€™t already sold

Looks like they pretty regularly go on sale for $700 (have for at least the last year). If they are asking for full price, Iā€™d look for a discount link like this:

Will be worth buying the HE6SE and use it with my current setup?

DAC: Modius
Amp: RNHP, A3, THX789

These cans do sound awesomeā€¦ better with sum burn in. If u are looking for earthquake bass these are not it (luv my Argons for that).

New grills coming and Dekoni shipping sum leather today.

Def solid performers stock, just love to burn up current. need least 4wpc to drive em decent.

Found the Bassā€¦ Security Screen door Grills Off!!! :money_mouth_face: Honeycombs on. Feel the fresh air Deeper - Pete Belasco (Tidal Hi-Fi.) These planars have complete control over that funky sub bass groove Flex sum range :muscle:t2:. Outstanding

I also found the bass! Honeycombs and DCA Ether Angled pads (Had to tape them ala Zeos Ether C Flow). The treble seems to have dropped just a touch, but the bass has much more presence.

Also, I got the Crest CA2 today, and initial impressions are good butā€¦ this thing is SUPER LOUD. The fan noise is unbearable. Iā€™ll have to see if I can replace the fans with something quieter because as far as I can tell the amp is supposed to have variable control over the fan, but after about 10 minutes of use it goes from desk fan to tornado mode.

Sum Clapton Unplugged tonight. The Dekoni Fenstrated pads are a def improvement. More comfortable, no hot spot were my ear tip hit the driver and treble bit more tamed. Cooler too.

Been looking at UP-OCC cables. LQi states their Silver plated is more neutral with a bit of bass boost, Copper being more warm and wider stageā€¦ Any suggestions? running em balanced.
