I donāt. Wasnāt a ranking though lol. Eikon might be a little further on than elegias. The elegia has all the mobility and portability that the eikon lacks. They still sound great in comparison, and I find myself switching off the eikons to them specifically for their sound sig every so often.
ahhhh lol, i thought u were ranking them. guess not, and yeah i assumed he eikons would be over the elegias so i was surprised
So rolling through some songs, the sundaras/asgard/enog are really hitting it with me, no eq! 3rd day with the sundaras and they sound better each day.
Yes just enjoy them and let them burn in a bit. Took mine a while, tho a big part of it is also you getting used to their sound. Have fun!
Im returning my liquid plat and getting a geshelli erish. See how that does with the sundaras. With the extra $$$ I might get a 6xx or 600ohm beyer and use my Dark voice with it. Seems like that could be more enjoyable money spent than the liquid plat Right now haha
Wow, that is quite a change. Youāll have to report back on the Erish.
Awesome! Welcome to the club. If youāre looking for less tonal buttfuckery, the erish is the way to go.
Then again it might be too analytical, but weāll see.
If the erish doesnāt work try the Gilmore mk2 or the rnhp.
DT 880 for neutral bright but a relatively lacking bass presence and lack of body. DT 990 for very sharp V signature and recessed mids, may need to mod if you are treble sensitive. T1 for again V signature not as sharp or as ethereal as the 990ā¦
Relatively curious on this one as I havenāt tried it. I have tried the gilmore mk2 and rnhp as well as my own liquid platinum. Gilmore responds very well to planars but I didnāt like it on my beyers I definitely preferred the RNHP over it on that and I only prefer liquid platinum over the RNHP for beyers when itās able to be balanced like the T1. RNHP struggles a bit on those 600 ohms which is a bit of an issue.
Iāve had mine for a good month now and Iām surprised by the amount of people whoāve said it sounds thin due to lack of bass.
I do feel that it āgainedā some bass over the course of using the Sundaraās, though that might just be witchcraft. This thing sounds amazing and I definitely understand the cult itās started (Honestly this sound signature also does quite well for me).
Edit: Also, going from a dynamic to a planar, it feels like the planar displays audio more realistically while the dynamic felt a little unrestrained, and in the not-so-good kind of senseā¦
@banaantjexx164 I, too, feel like the bass got better as they burned in with use. Plenty for me, and crisp and tight imo. If in doubt ck some Zimmer soundtracks!
That surprises me as well. While I wouldnāt call them bass canons I would never think to call them thin or lacking in bass. They seem to love power but even single ended with less than two watts I get what I would consider above average extension and amount.
Bass on headphones is an intertesting topic to me because of the implementation of how the bass is made be it sub bass, bass guitars, keyboard/piano, etc. On the sundaras you arenāt gonna really get that rattle of the deep bass but you sure are gonna hear the details of the bass guitar, keyboardā¦And for me personally bass doesnāt need to be boomy/shaky unless its hip hop, edm, etc. Now a headphone that can do both is awesome. But you may sacrifice other things. Sundaras are very detailed so you arent gonna get dat BASS, but you will hear the Bass instrument well. Also, depending on what headphones/iem people have used before listeing to the sundaras will have an impact. I feel the bass on the k712 and oh10 is more impactful and fun, but the sundaras and starfields are detailed and relaxed which i lean towards. If im listening to john paul jones or flea, i wanna hear ever note they hit/slap. I dont them to need it to rumble rumble.
Very well put. Good bass, but not a bassheads dream.
I donāt know in my opinion I found the bass kind of lacking though it still had a lot of detail to it. I think perhaps some tweaks to maybe the pads may make it stand out more or just equalizing it a hair higher to make it more present will help those having this issue though I will agree itās definitely by no means a basshead level headphone.
I have zmf ori lambs and my pad rings are supposed to come today so Iāll you know the differences
There was a silent revision to the pads back in February, which might explain why people are getting differing opinions on the bass. Personally, with the new pads, I find the bass to be just right. Itās heard but not so much felt. Of course, if you want some extra impact then EQ or pad swapping are your best options. Iāve read great things about Hifiman headphones with the ZMF Auteur pads, so I went ahead and ordered myself a pair of Hybrid Auteur pads. Iāll report what I feelā¦
You should be able to use the rings already included with the Sundara. Just cannibalize them off the stock padsā¦
Quick impressions on pad swapping the sundaras is that they donāt change the sound or Iām not noticing an immediate change. Iām using ZMF Uni lambs. Thatās a good or bad thing depending on what youāre looking for. I was only looking for some extra comfort so this is a plus in my books.
Forget the lambs. The uni suede perfs have a warmer sound.
Are the old pads about as thick as the old focus pads that came on the 400i/4xx? I tried swapping to my 400i pads and it had a big impact on bass. Pretty much killed everything below 70hz and what was left felt soft. It also seemed to make cymbols and bells and touch more aggressive. Putting the Sundara pads on the 400i did the opposite.
According to headphones.com, it seems like the new pads are thinner in the front and resemble the Focus Pads listed on the Hifiman website, but are not the same thing. I canāt say anything about the old Sundara pads since Iāve never tried em.
