šŸ”¶ HiFiMan Sundara

What are your thoughts on them so far?

To my ears theyā€™re pretty unreal and Iā€™m beyond pleasedā€¦ probably helped out with the a3 but the pairing is easily the best Iā€™ve heard so far in the headphone game

Itā€™s pretty sweet, glad you are enjoying them :+1:

How are the sundaras for treble sensitivity? Itā€™s usually the ā€œsā€ region that seems to bother me.

They arenā€™t sibilant to me, and would only really be a concern on an extremely poor recording imo

Treble sensitivity sucksā€¦ I find these really smooth thoughā€¦ do you have a headphone that bothers you we can use as reference?

I sold my t60rp and argon mk3 because I found that ā€œsā€ region on both of them bothered me more often than not, was gonna ask for a comparison between those and these, also the 4xx in this respect. Because those two are the only planars Iver heard and that ā€œsā€ region was a turn off for me. Really want to try another planar.

hmm so I can only speak to the 4xx here and say that the highs on the Sundara are a marked improvementā€¦ theyā€™re sparkly are detailed but to me havenā€™t been fatiguing which has plagued me in the pastā€¦ I think its a sweet spot for my tastes but id hold off until someone can compare with the fostex for you

Do you find the argon mk3s to be sibilant at times? How would you compare that ā€œsā€ region on the sundara, 4xx, and argonā€™s/t60rp?

So I think the argonā€™s can get more sibilant than the sundara can. Regarding the 4xx I would say that the sundara is smoother and more refined in the treble. The argonā€™s and t60 can have some harshness at times that may bother some but I donā€™t think I would call it a sibilant headphone either imo

To add to what mon said, the 4xx are honestly not particularly sibilant at all ime when using a nice dac. Because before with the btr3 connected to the spark they were still sibilant with some kpop but connecting them to the xduoo plus dac I was shocked to see that there was no hint of sibilanceā€¦ even with the high pitched piercing sounds from female korean pop singers

I agree. The HE-400i definitely has some sibilance, but the he4xx I never encountered any. Just a tiny bit too bass lite quantity wise for my personal preference, but great quality bass. For the price though, the he4xx are a steal (as are the hd58x).

Which is real strange as the first run 4xx sounded very close to the 400i. The newer 4xx have focuspad a so that makes a difference

Yes, the different pad variations did play a role. I also believe that a warmer sounding amp (like a liquid spark on the less costly side) is the type of pairing one would want with hifiman stuff.

Unlessā€¦ someone wants bright compressed treble murder with tons of power and no technicalitiesā€¦then they can buy an Audio Gd NFB-11 and pair it with the Arya or Ananda and have the sound of icepick raw-dog treble penetrate their ear holes, lmfao.

The liquid spark or the Asgard 3 are great matches imo

I agree the spark gives more body to them than my xduoo. Can be a bit too light with a neutral or bright amp for my taste

Liquid spark is yet another thing I want to try. Want to see if itā€™s warm compared to other stuff that i have already

Iā€™m on team hifiman :raising_hand_man: best thing Iā€™ve heard so far and today got even betterā€¦ these donā€™t need nearly the burn in the 4xx does for example but low end has really come to life now a few days inā€¦ extremely pleasing cans

I had the same with the Se215ā€™s. Though I donā€™t use them with an amp or dac, after a week or 2 of using them they really started getting a bit warmer. Got even more fun listening to them at that moment.
