Thatās exactly what I mean. It depends what you are looking for, what are your priorities. How important or non-important certain aspects are. What your taste is. There are so many factors that play a role when making a purchase. In my eyes, the DX300 is a new category of DAPs and the closest we have seen a DAP come to a smartphone. Whether or not this matters to you is entirely up to you, and you only.
I completely missed out on Cowon (even though I know the company). I knew I was missing something out. I consider Cowon another industry-leading company.
Just like in headphones, they make all the difference. They have significant power of changing the sonic performance.
Edit: Changed ātypeā to ācategoryā since I think that word better expresses what I was trying to say. English is not my native language.
One thing to mention with the DX300, there are now two versions of its Amp11. I personally think the Amp11mk1 had a more unique tuning while Amp11mk2 sounds good, but wouldnāt say it sounds special. Others do prefer the mk2. When I had the Amp11mk1, I preferred listening to it on most IEMs I had over the Shanling M8. Now that I have mk2, I prefer the M8.
Well keep in mind some people if not most people prefer the amp11mk2. Pairing of IEM also matters. Like I prefer the MEST mkii on the M8 while I prefer Andromeda 2020 on amp11mk1. If you take out the amp, this is amp11mk1:
If you donāt want to open it up, there is noticeable mid-bass bump in the sound in the mk1
Also, my two cents: the time it takes to change out the AMP11 would have a significant impact on oneās judgement. Bla, bla, bla, our audio memory is way too short to make it even a considerationā¦ unless you have two DX300, each with a different AMP11. Iām a skeptic and a party pooper, Iām sorry
I understand your feeling. What I can tell you is how I felt when I first heard the mk1 and mk2. Mk1 I was like wo, Mk2 I was like this sounds good, but didnāt really feel more emotion than that.
Could it possibly be because when you were listening to the Mk1 it was your first impression, hence possibly more emotionally intense? This is one way I could look at it.
I know that for me, when I listen for something different for the first time (e.g. a headphone/iem), it really blows me away. Then, after some time, I get used to it and it is not as big of a wow effect as it was the first time. Almost as though your ears get used to it, much like we get used to the smell of a perfume. Possible, I guess.
I owned mk1 and mk2 at different times. I also have tried other sources like the RME ADI 2 DAC FS and N3Pro so itās not like I am going from an iPhone to a DX300. Early March I owned Mk1, heard about M8 and thought it suited my preferences better so I returned Mk1. When I got M8 I realized I preferred Mk1, but then Mk2 came out and I bought that one. Even over time I remember preferring the mk1.
I definitely have same experiences. When I had the Mk1, every time I tried it with the Andromeda I was enjoying it. Over time when I am used to something, I judge what I like based on what I naturally pick up more. The easiest source for me to pick up is my iPhone or LG G7 so even if I had a high end source, but was meh feeling on the sound, I still listened to iPhone more since I felt the same emotional attachment to the sound. When I got the Mk1, I kept listening to the Mk1.
Bt to p6p sounds better than bit perfect roon to my h2 or sp1k+amp on VX, mest, and diana. P6p realy realy is a SQ beast tbh. The one think I will say thiugh is that I like clears on hugo 2 better than p6p purely off of synergy, bit they arenāt realy resolving enough to see the limits of either the hugo 2 or p6p so
This is actialy something im quite interested in. The differences between like a sp1k and p6p are fairly starke, bit what exactly kind of jump are we looking at between super high end android players and one tier up dap (lpgt, sp2k, etc)?
This bugs me so damn much. I seriously want to test one of my daps se vs bal. Iām almost certain I can pick put the different bjt I will never be convinced for sure I can unless I have 2 of them properly volume matched to abxā¦
Interesting, if I was to get one then I think Iād get an LDAC transmitter for my pc for it since my phone only does AAC. Although Iām way off getting a p6p right now
