A little fun experiment I had with my crazy iem collection (that’s about to be cut in half ). Iems involved: U12t, VE8, V16, Monarch2, U6t, Violet and PMX.
Not a ranking or objective review. Just listening impressions in a fun format.

This is awesome! I’ve been looking for some impressions on the v16 and you made them out to be pretty good. Hard to find info on them… almost blind bought them. Might have to finally just pull the trigger
Man I need to rein it in. The following will surely allow for a bunch of comparison. My anticipation is that I will keep the Aladdin and the Olina, or the Aladdin and the Autumn.

Currently have:
I know what to expect from many of these, but there is a good chance the Autumn will be a phenomenal match for me (I truly love my NM2+ for quite a while, this seems to fix its tonal shortcomings while adding even more technicality… I’m a sucker for a 13mm DD)
And the Lotoo is the biggest unicorn of them all, or at least is shrouded in mystery. The last time I bought an IEM while knowing next to nothing about it was the Aladdin. I can only pray I’m so lucky with the Lotoo.
Oooh that was a nice shopping spree haha. Hopefully you’ll find a DD to your liking. Wonder what you’ll think of the Oxygen, now that you’ve tasted the DM lol.
All these phenomenal reviews of the CCA CRA is giving me FOMO. @nymz @Rikudou_Goku since I have the Oxygen, Aladdin, and S12, do you think there’s a niche for the CRA?
I wouldn’t. It’s cheap but you covered
My wallet thanks you
I’m getting one so that if it’s great, I can give it to a friend who’s been curious about audio as a cheap introduction. A friends and family IEM, I just want to hear it myself before reccing it to them.
To be honest after all my whingeing about timbre, I’ve been falling in love with the Aladdin all over again as far as being amazed/satisfied. My theory is at best I’ll take on one of the cheaper single DDs for variety.
I’ll really try to give the Serial a fair go, as it has a chance of being one that covers both needs (smooth + sub bass + timbre) and I love the shells. I can give it a little more power this time around. But it’s too pricey to be my “timbre add-on”. That would be Olina, Autumn (got a massive discount on it) or Lotoo if any of their sounds impresses me enough to keep it as a separate flavor.
Either way I’m hoping this is a haul that leaves me with one or two very confident choices so I can take a long break from shopping and selling.
None of them have as much sub-bass as the CRA. I say the CRA will still be a nice complement.
(and I use mine much more than the O2 btw.)
Dang, really suits your library huh!
Yes, love it.
Trance & EDM
Did you already get a shipped notification from Penon? I also ordered the Serial on the 16th and it’s still in “processing” status.
Bought it used, sorry I can’t help!
Hey guys, any Kinera Norn users here? I’m curious how they compare against the competition.
I’ve short listed the Norn and EST 112 for now so any comparision, input… e.t.c. With those IEMs would be appreciated. Thanks.
Or do I get one of the budget Tribrids instead?
Ooooh nice! Excited to hear your thoughts. I wonder how a multi DD competes against a hybrid
+1 on getting your impressions, this is also on my radar.
@ttorbic any particular hybrid in mind? I’m definitely not the guy to provide anywhere near the level of feedback that others can - I’m (relatively!) old, have poor(er) ears etc. But I know what I like and what works with my library (good overlap with HBB’s library and preferences so his reviews provide a great resource for me). To that end my current ‘duality’ is:
UM 3DT
Xenns UP
With <space reserved for xHBB 07m’s > to hopefully complete a trinity.
In terms of hybrids I have Teas (most equivalent on price I guess) and they will stay with me, but they largely stay in a case now. I bring them out every so often for a listen and if I’m honest just to look at them (first real foray in to IEMs, good balanced sound and still love the look of them). But for my library (mostly rock, metal, with a mix of other stuff I like) I now plug in the 3DTs first - or the UPs for older recordings and stuff like Public Enemy. I do use PEQ in UAPP on the 3DTs just to tame a peak at 4.75kHz but apart from that they do it for me for the faster metal and more modern genres in my library. I love the ‘note weight’ that the DDs bring and the ‘bite’ they have sounds great to my ears for fast, aggressive stuff. Albeit the treble can get too hot for me on some tracks hence the bit of PEQ I add.
I can tell you that much: prepare for a complete shill review. Penon has a new fanboy.
I need a few hours to sort my thoughts.
