Playing Mantra by Lorn, on the Fatfreq Maestro Mini. I swear it’s vibrating my knees.
But is it good for general usage or more like a one trick pony?
Do I even need to say something other than welcome home?
Not sure who you’re replying to, but Yes and No.
Not an OTP because the sound itself is very balanced and can play pretty much any library, especially excelling at rock/indie/alternative. Staging, imaging, and dynamics are all endgame level along with great clarity and separation.
The only barrier is that you’ll need to crank the volume higher than normal since treble can sound dark at lower volumes for sure. For me it’s a total winner since I listen above mid-volume all the time.
Great question. I gave it 30 minutes tops between receiving the package at work and having to come home, with a lot of stressful things even in that time… I would say
a) Overall yes. The level of bass goes beyond realism for all but tracks that would put you in a club/concert/electronic space where that level of bass is credible. It’s a lot of fun, but in most situation sounds EQed, as you’d expect for that many dB elevation.
b) But is it poor in other FR areas? Actually no. Whatever the BA is, it’s very impressive both in terms of timbre and range. Having it in the nozzle so close to the opening seemed like a bit of a basic solution to counteracting bass, but clearly its placement and type of BA were well researched and experimented with, the tuning is not at all unreasonable in non-bass areas.
c) Would I keep it? Not at all, my EDC has to be an all-rounder, and I knew going into this that the Maestro would could not be that while delivering the bass levels I was so curious to at least hear for myself. Purely satisfying curiosity.
For people who do listen predominantly to one genre, or like to have a binge where they know bass intense music is what they’ll be listening to for the whole sitting, no issues recommending it, loads of fun, sends vibrations through your body.
How does the FatFreq compare to some of the other bassy IEM’s you’ve heard?
an Odin with an added W10 and 2 less EST. good thing is same price. think I’ll pass on this.
Why is the Yume: Midnight not talked about often? These are amazing
A little preview of the new gem from Subtonic. Crazy performance, very high price tag too unf.
I’ve had my eyes on these, but I definitely want to see how they hold up against the competition once released and may need to wait for a used pair to emerge (I have a hard time swallowing the suggested $$$ I’ve seen for these).
How does it compare to sony ex8000st tape mod?
How does it compare to sony ex8000st tape mod and other basshead sets
They are special. They have been (at least) holding up against anything I threw at them including my Diana Phi/TC hybrid.
Bass, dynamics, details and treble are up there with anything.
I’ve never heard the ex800st
also @jdan1457
I’m working on a reply to “other basshead sets” but TBH I don’t know how much of what I’ve heard counts as true basshead like these. I love the low end on Xenns Up and Serial, the Penon Fan might be one of the bassiest I’ve owned (I have one coming “soon” (depends on delivery)) so it’ll be interesting to compare.
The FW01 by JVC that I have atm is pretty L shaped and thick.
I’ll compare as best I can with the above when I get a chance.
Hello, today i’ve got my IEC711 coupler with USB soundcard, this one: Precision Artificial Ear Iec711 Frequency Response Curve Tester Artificial Ear 318-4 Headphone Tester - Personal Care Appliance Parts - AliExpress. I know that i’m going to need calibration file (i asked the seller for it). I would like to ask, can someone help me get through whole setup on my PC step by step? What software should i use? For first is my connection correct?
ok, everything seems to work. One question, can i do something with these 2 deviations without smoothing the whole graph? Btw. are you guys using any smoothing option at all?
FYI, found a cheaper store that sells those X meshes.
They arent as organised as the other link I used before though (NSC store).
I got my set of KBear Rosefinch in.
It’s $12 (on US Amazon).
Why? How? Like…why do we spend so much money, when these companies are FULLY capable of making good gear at bargain prices?
(In reality, we pay more for R&D, tech, and refinements of tuning and such. But what they CAN do for under $50, or $30, or $20 when they’re motivated is crazy).
