Dude - i think I need to acknowledge how freaking amazing this review was. The amount of time you must of spent finding memes and images to match what you’re saying, edit and sync it all up, make it engaging and funny at the same time AND deal with the holidays is a sight to behold. This style of review is probably one of my new favorite things to watch … also - I saw Guy-Manuel for a split second so it’s always good to see one of the boys make an appearance
The SA6U may be a great set, but your video was S+. Nicely done, my friend
Thanks so much man glad you liked it Finding the memes took FOREVER I think there’s 50+ images in there… My deepest respect to all the YouTubers who make videos in this format - it’s so time consuming (being a noob doesn’t help either).
I got a set recently and something sounded off to me on the first listen, but last night I sat down and did a decent long listening session with them and I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable they are. Well worth the $35 and nice to have as a daily driver when you don’t want to take the more costly stuff out with you.
These were terrible! I tried these thinking they might be a more stylish version of my ER4XRs or something and I couldn’t have been more wrong. Not only were they as anemic in the low end as you can get, but they’re also nowhere close on the resolution either.
I read some of that review and I couldn’t have had a more diametrically opposed experience.
Battle of the mids. Also, I now daily drive the cursed pairing on the right since the synergy is shockingly good (w/ foams.) I’ll have some expanded thoughts on the MKII (and Prestige when it arrives.)
I’m definitely stoked for my Prestige to arrive. If their graph is anything to go by, they appear to adjust exactly the areas I was looking for changes to.
On a random note, I got my hands on a pair of TRI i3s (OG, non-pro) just before Christmas after wanting to try them out for quite some time and I have to say, these IEMs are crazy good! They have a very pleasant balance that comes out sounding natural, a touch warm, and dynamically powerful. Despite being a tribrid, and a relatively inexpensive one at that, they have a cohesive tuning and maintain very good timbral accuracy. The shells are very big, but the shape and nozzle angle allows them to fit very comfortably in my ear and I have listened to them for multiple hour sessions with no complaints. Overall, these were a great deal at their original retail price and they’re a steal at what you can get them for now.
As some of you know from my other post, @LakeWyles was nice enough to give me these for just the cost of shipping. What I didn’t know at the time I made that post was that he also threw in a like a new TRI TK-2 combo as a Christmas present for free because he’s generous and thought it paired well with the i3s. I mention this because I’m still floored by his generosity and wanted to thank him one more time for being an amazing part of this community and for being an integral part to my Christmas this year, but also because, after trying the i3s on quite a few sources, I absolutely agree that the TK-2 is a wonderful match for them. The i3s have a very big 3D stage for an IEM and the TK-2 has this wonderful ability to add even more height and depth in particular. This makes the i3s sound absolutely massive for an IEM and it also imparts some extra authority and articulation to the low end, leaving the listener with a uniquely dynamic presentation capable of giving you all the power you could want, but also pulling back and presenting ethereally delicate passages in this 3D sphere with equal nuance and aplomb.
I’m frankly shocked at what this pairing can pull off and how versatile it is. These aren’t first impressions (I have listened to these IEMs for double digit hours over more than a week now) nor are they the impressions of someone who doesn’t have the context of higher end gear to know the limitations of what he’s hearing (I own, have owned, and have heard a lot of very nice gear). Is this pairing perfect? No and I’m not trying to say it is or trying to overhype it. What I am saying is that for a 3 year old IEM that retailed for $170, but is regularly found used for under $85 and a $270 mobile combo (though a very good one that I’m REALLY impressed with separately) the level of sonic performance is well beyond what I would have imagined and I’m just a bit blown away by it. I have been doing a sub $1k single DD shootout, but have had trouble stopping myself from listening to this pair when I intended to be working on that.
Anyways, random I know, but I wanted to share because I’m rarely truly surprised by something like this and it makes me super happy!
Edit: P.S. For anyone who’s interested, I will be finishing up my single DD shootout in the next 2 to 3 days and I’ll be doing a write-up on it that I’ll post in HBB’s thread and probably link or crosspost here so stay tuned!
