Well, Campfire Audio has laid at least two eggs in its own nest that make the Trifecta look bad.
This is not primarily about their technical skills, but about their overall sound.
One thing I always appreciated about the high end CA models was their natural, open, warm and powerful sound.
The Trifecta is a bass monster (in a positive sense), but it overdoes it a bit with its stage presentation and the overall tonal sound coordination and thus loses its naturalness.
This is often just āintensiveā, which is fun for a short time, but is rather exhausting during longer listening sessions.
Even if I try to make EQ adjustments, the Trifecta does not reach the tonal level of a Supermoon or a Solaris 2023.
I recently bought a used Campfire Solaris OG, just got it this past Friday (yesterday), so far I like what I hear, it is my first high end iem and my first Campfire audio iem.
Legatos arrived yesterday. The description of a house party with a mid-fi system was perfect. Iād been looking for a bassy set like this but the Maestro Mini price was just more than I wanted to pay and these fit the bill perfectly.
Only issue Iām having is settling on tips. So far I canāt make up my mind between Tri Clarion, Dunu S&S, or TRN T-tips. Fit feels so important on Legatos due to their size.
Hello everyone! Iāve started my own webgraph database of measurements aka squigs to most. Iād appreciate if you stopped by and took a quick look. Itās still a work in progress and my measurements arenāt many as of now. If you happen to be a reviewer and would like your target included or an IEM blogger and want a link added DM me details.
Iāll even take measurements if anyone wants and is US based. Iāll pay return shipping for your help in building my database. I have established members on here Iāve toured my IEMs with, some still on tour, who can vouch for my trustworthiness.
This is exciting, Iād like to send some sets fairly soon.
I have done plenty of sales, trades, and loans, with Marcus and he will take impeccable care of your gear, package it well, and be great to talk to along the way. Marcus holds himself to high standards and Iād trust him with just about anything non gear/audio related too if I ever needed to.
I can easily vouch for @MMag05 and the rest he listed. I consider them all friends and they are all around good peeps. I wouldnāt hesitate sending any set I have to them
Anytime. Will be eagerly awaiting. Iāll provide the text files to after measurement. Maybe include them with sales or use them on the autoeq squigs section.
What choices do you think youāll make as far as what tips are used from set to set when recording them? I feel like in reality all squigs could have about 5 variations to select depending on which tips are used, so people can compare performance with stock tips with how several common tip choices affect that. When thereās only one available and thereās no indication of tip choice (the usual with just about all squigs) I sometimes wonder if Iām looking at the result of a tip that boosts midbass and reduces upper mids, or a tip that gives the sub-bass a little lift. Thereās no such thing as a neutral tip I guess.
To clarify Iām not pushing for you to record separate squigs 5 times with different tips (that would be a nightmare), but I am curious if youāve decided on a methodology, like āalways stock tipsā, or ātip x regardless of the setā or āthe tip that brings out the particular strengths of the tuningā etc.
My thoughts were to use Dekoni Bulletz, just labeled Foam Tips, to have a foam tip reading. Some form of SpinFits CP and then the stock tips they ship with. Figured foams and the CPs are both very common tips a lot of use. Stock is for those who donāt tip roll. Some exceptions would be for sets where I see individuals gravitate to something else like the Spring Tips on the N3.
Edit: I just need to get the initial measurements in only using Foam. Then Iāll go to the others. Also need to figure out how some of the squigs to the drop down on an IEM so itās not listed multiple times in the model section.
All you have to do is talk to the guy to know that @MMag05 is good people and that he doesnāt take his reputation for granted. I doubt my word will make anyone more comfortable loaning stuff to Marcus, but Iāll include it anyways. Dudeās as solid as they come. Iād have absolutely no problem woth loaning him anything in my collection and there arenāt many people Iād say that about.
Plus, how cool is the idea of being able to have a squig full of graphs of our actual IEMs to compare with others. Just think about how many variables that eliminates. Comparing graphs would be significantly more useful this way.
That was part of my thought for creating it. As mentioned earlier Iāll provide the rew text files for anyone that loans a set so you can use them for sales or autoeq.
I have had the absolute privilege and honor of interacting with and purchasing from @MMag05 and I can say heās one of the kindest and most trustworthy dudes Iāve ever met. This new graphing project you have is exciting, brother! Iāll be sending some of my IEMs your way come the next tour, thanks again for your work for the community, man. Itās amazing
No wonder why I like the SGOR Venus so much, for a cheap set. The big dealbreaker is that extra 5-8k energy. Iām not too sensitive to that (and need a little boost, in fact) so itās a good one for me.
But for the people sensitive at 5-8k, HBBās Blon will be
5k peaking is always a no-no for me for female vocals if nothing else, so thatās a plus for the Z300 in my books if it carries over other qualities you liked from the Venus.
