I wanted to give a very special shout-out to the mysterious and busy man that is @nymz - the generous man that he is cannot go unnoticed.
He sent a care package to both me and @GooberBM containing a few amazing IEMs that he and I split up as evenly as possible.
I decided to take home and keep within my collection a pair of the OG Wu as well as his modded pair of OG Olinas. We also received a pair of Dunu Kimas as well, and while I haven’t tried them as of today, they are literally brand new with all accessories. I’ll give them a listen eventually but I’ve been having a lot of fun listening to the Wu as well as the Olinas - thank you so much, @nymz - you’re an amazing friend and I wish you all the luck, love and happiness with your newly expanded family
Olina is my reference set. I one of the few that preferred it stock. As I am currently attracted to darker signatures, I should retry the double-meah-mod, though.
I think that’s what Nymz did to this set - whatever he did, it honestly sounds great. I must say though, the female vocals are already pretty damn forward so without the mod I can confidently say it’d be way too much for me.
I know I like brighter sets than most
I think it come down to my first real audio epiphany, when I listened to my he400i for the first time. The he400i is the default hear I compare with everything else, and it is a bit cold and bright so …
I recently tried it on my newly acquired monolith 887 amp, and the sibilances are to much in this config i’m afraid. The senn hd6xx that I always found overstated is gaining ground real fast with this thx amp!
Ain’t nothing wrong with that, brother! The timeless was something of a deciding factor when it comes to my flavor of sound as well - I used them so much for so long that my ears just became adjusted to treble peaks and dips at 3K - you like what you like and there’s no one who can tell you otherwise is what I say
Not sure what constitutes a imbalance that warrants for an exchange. Going to email 64 Audio and see what they say. I just received the U4s this week and graphed it today with all modules. This was repeated over three measurements on L/R with every module. Don’t think it’s me or the coupler as none of my other measurements exhibit a similar imbalance in the midbass. I’d almost saying when your paying this amount of money for an IEM a couplet is almost a must just for “insurance” purposes.
All of that looks to be within 2db and some of it within 1, but it’s more than I’d like to see on a pair I paid that much for, for sure. I have never graphed my A12t, but my A18s graph so close that you can’t tell the lines apart until you’re well above where these couplers start losing reliability.
Only Senn have a perfect channel balance, without any discrepancies. But their weak point is the durability of DD. After 3 months of music with the IE600, they sent me a new pair yesterday because the left bud stopped working. They wanted to refund my money but I refused because I love my IE600 very much. But their balance is TOP.
I don’t think it’s enough of an imbalance that you would notice it save for the bass on the third chart, try EQ to match them and see if you feel it makes a difference.
