IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Had my set on while reading the entire time and feel you were spot on about every aspect of the EST50!
Such a special IEM, that’s definitely staying with me until they can play no more

Curiosity question for those who own the Mele and the Kai and the Blon Z300: which set do you prefer power metal played on?

Well written review and pretty spot on from what I’m hearing. I do agree the EST50 is an extremely fun tuning. Would probably be more idea for bassheads. My only real gripe on it is that tracks mastered to already be bass heavy can be a bit to much and start masking other areas of the track.

The DTE500 is also another option for those looking for something that is more bass light. For me DTE500 is a better all arounder that keeps a lot of the tuning characteristics minus the elevated bass. At the end of the day which I’d recommend would be based on what you either A. Already have and desire a different tuning or B.) If you’re a basshead or looking for something slightly toned down in the bass.

I have both graphed on my database graphed for those curious and have A/B’d them back to back.

This makes me want to try the DTE500 because the EST50 had some things I liked about them, but ultimately came across to bassy sometimes and too dark at other times.

I’m wondering if “massiv” will translate right to US ears as a clique/crew/posse?

Aye ^ that :joy:

Agree there, I also mention it. Some music gets overbearing when already boosted in the bass. But I guess this depends what your preference is.

For me I like how it is and it stay as a extra IEM in the collection of mine, for when I want that extra low end.

And soon we have the Penon 10th anniversary tribrid, as I understand 500usd. 2 DD 6mm, 2 BAs and 2 ESTs.

I saw a early measurement a while back about it, for me it looked very similar to the Volt from Penon. I liked the original for everything except the low end, as it where not controlled that well.

It has the appearance of a Fan 2 and the Volt getting together. From the configuration at least, there’s always a chance that it sounds that way too.

That makes a lot of sense: The driver configuration is a marriage of the two, the look is the marriage of the two, the price point is a marriage of the two.

I wouldn’t be mad at marrying the strengths of the two musically too

Don’t you need a special Penon cable account to access that shiz?

what is this "shiz’’ ?

I am guessing he means to mock the penon cable reviewers. Not mentioning names, but they write as much about a cable as full size IEM review.

Aaaah. :slightly_smiling_face: Understood. Yes, but I almost never read their reviews.

I always was wondering if I was the only one who noticed this, seems not then.

Gives me the chill all the time

I guess if I pair this cable with a Mele and it becomes a Mon MK2, or at least a Clair:
