IEM discussion thread (Part 1)

Well because you asked. Unfortunately I didn’t get an after photo. Just imagine the clear part being the whole filter. Would have just changed them out but, don’t have any spares around.

You’re an actual champ, Mags! Thanks for saving my filters from me

Hey man I wasn’t going to say anything. Just make it look like my ears did this. I was only able to spare the two on the Aurora though. The others were to far gone. We lost some good one today. I’ll give them a proper farewell.

I’m just glad you had the filters to get the measurements and hear them for yourself. I can put fresh ones on when they come home.

And I’ll have to get a set or two more of Olina replacements. They’re looking too valuable to risk not having enough around

Hahaha Ugandan Knuckles definitely makes me laugh, what a ridiculous meme! the reason why doge is so close to the heart for me is because, well first of all I love dogs and secondly because back when doge coin first blew up, I was part of that wave and let’s just say it was so exciting and a lot of my buddies were in it with me. Seeing that ticker go up and up and up… good memories. I made a lot of money, didn’t lose any, but didn’t pull out in time and lost a huge amount of profit. It’ll be funny to look back on it when I’m old and gray, that’s for sure.

Can I just say that the graph doesn’t even look half bad tbh? The switches don’t do too much as per usual but KZ hasn’t been on their usual V shaped BS lately. The LinLong is actually quite decent!

Ahhh man, hell yeah. Thank you! Yeah these guys sure are amazing. They absolutely didn’t have to do this. Just goes to show how amazing this community can truly be, especially when you make some buddies. They really do got my back :handshake: I can’t wait to dive into the Pandas, I adore them but I’ve never gotten a chance to listen to them at home for longer periods of time so, needless to say, I’m hyped!

You’re the man, thank you Mags! You’re a true gentleman and I’ll try my best to mimic your infamous Panda night with some pics and some brews :sunglasses::handshake:

speaking of filters causing issues I thought my left Aful P5 was dying (I added filters to them at one point) turns out somehow the filter fell off and was lodging itself in the nozzle

hmm, maybe I should send you some filters (200 to 500 grade) when you order my Gen 3 buds. (Inevitable :smirk:)

Had an amazing time listening to the Pandas last night, along with a photo sesh to highlight these amazing little sleeper IEMs.

I’m going to go out and say it - if you’re a listener who values vocal clarity and beautiful dynamics, give the Giant Pandas a shot. Unbelievably, you can still buy them new for around $100 and I know this market moves quickly, but I feel they still compete in this price range many many months after it’s release.

Happy belated birthday.

I was also late to the Giant Pandas, and completely agree. They came in the same week I got the EA500 and the Galileo, and they stood their own in that group. In many ways the Panda do something similar the OG Tea with that flat mids, and good control in the 3-8k range.

After a fairly good run of not buying much from August of last year, until March this year. I only picked up the QKZxHBB, Kiwi Ears Cadenza, and Truthear Hola during that stretch. Then March was the three I mentioned above, and May is going to be Z300, PR2, plus replacing the QKZxHBB my wife stole.

I am curious to discover how I feel about the Pandas vs the PR2. I still think my favorite planar is the S12, but until the $300 mark, there isn’t much better than the S12.

John, what is your impression between the Pandas vs Tea 2?
Would like to know if it’s redundant. Right now I only have Tea 2, QKZxHBB and Buds 2 Pro.

Thank you so much, John. It was a great one this year and that means a lot coming from me, I usually hate my birthday :+1:

Among those other two, that’s saying a whole lot. I haven’t tried the Galileo but I’ve heard great things about that set pertaining to its vocal performance. The EA500 is a lovely example of jack of many trades, master of none. I’d say it stands taller than most that share the same price tag, but for me the Pandas have a special quality to them. As time goes on, that’s becoming increasingly more important to me when it comes to choosing IEMs. For example, I chose the OG Wu today as my IEM of choice and while these are extremely fun IEMs (amazing bass for a planar imo) they don’t have anything inherently “special” about them. They’re enjoyable, very enjoyable. But the Pandas put a huge smile on my face when I’m listening to them. The timbre and vocal texture is impressive, especially considering it’s a planar with a $100 price tag. I have yet to hear the S12 and tbh, I don’t think I need to. I have my personal holy trinity of Planars now, each with their own flavor, and I’m happy :+1:

The PR2 is really interesting - for $40 it could smash the market. The tuning is so incredible similar to the OG Wu, I know someone will inevitably make that comparison and I’m for it. Also, good job keeping the wallet tied down for so long, that is commendable, good sir :sunglasses:

Edit: I should add that the EA500 does have a special type of energy to it in the mid-late treble that makes them quite amazing to listen to. I don’t have another set that does something similar so in a way, maybe it does have a certain special sauce to it for my ears.

The more i read your thoughts about the panda, the more i want to get another one in the hope I get the proper FR

Thou shall not deviate from the Panda! You’ve taken an oath to be faithful to only one planar!

This is @domq422 with his planars. If you know what I mean. I’m a one planar kind of guy. Forever faithful to my Panda.

So the Tea 2 is a bit more V-shaped than either the Pandas and the OG Tea.
They Panda wouldn’t be redundant with the Tea2, or the QKZxHBB.

The Panda doesn’t have the sub-bass of either, but the treble is tuned down enough that the mids really stand out. It might be the flattest graph of any IEM I own, and I think that is part of the magic.

I enjoy it, in addition to being great for vocals, it has great resolution, and it doesn’t even hint at sibilance on long listening sessions. The Galileo seems very similar to the Truthear Hexa, just with the treble peaks tamped down.

I am with you on the EA500, I can’t explain why I like it, but it really works for me.

this is the toughest part of this hobby

I am happy to hear you had a great birthday. I am with you, I don’t always enjoy mine either.

Hi folks, I just posted my review of my EST50 on head-fi. I know there has been some talk in here about the EST50, I love this one and it gives me something unique.

I bet this is also a tribrid that would satisfy many and is maybe a better buy than a few other models out there.
