I don’t know what transducers are. Il Google it now
Lol he’s saying spend your money on the IEMs themselves, since that’s where most of the sound quality lies and is the most important part of your audio “chain”. In a speaker setup, the transducers would be the speakers.
Or earphones, or earbuds, or speakers. The thing that makes the noise
I have both RU6 and RU7.
My humble opinion is that they are both excellent, even if technically profoundly different.
RU6 is a R2R multibit DAC while RU7 is a 1-bit discrete component DAC.
This means that any audio signal entering RU7 is always converted to DSD.
You can choose which type of DSD you want to convert the audio to: DSD64, 128 or 256.
And here we come to the point.
My rough ears don’t hear much difference in sound between RU6 and RU7-DSD64.
But if I change the setting to RU7, choosing to convert to DSD128 or even better DSD256, the miracle happens, and the sound becomes more technical and detailed, and less warm.
So, to my ears, the advantage of RU7 over 6 is that of the sonic signature which changes significantly by changing the conversion setting.
MQA is filing for bankruptcy and Tidal is adding Hi-Res Flac, so it seems likely they’ll eventually be dropping MQA anyways.
Welcome to HFGF - sure you will find it a pretty chill and close knit community here in the main
I used to draw the curve on top of the graph, and then use a tool to transform the drawn curve into key value pairs, and then import everything to REW for normalising for the txt format. Your approach seems more sane. Thanks for sharing
Yeah. I was going to buy the W4 based on the sound, and then I use it and remember how annoying dongle life is. Going with UTWS5 for mobile listening and not looking back. When I can sit down, I prefer a full sized DAP, or just an apple dongle connected to an external amp.
I have the ibasso dc04. It’s for my laptop and it’s solid. But I’m trying to get out of the dongle game.
I finally bit the bullet and ordered the RU7 to use the line-out function with my KAEI TAP-1s and that is exactly what I needed to hear. Had been bouncing back and forth between it and the RU6 for a while.
Bluetooth DAC then
Yep that’s what I run, got a UTWS3 for on the go, Q5K for around the house and DAP for dedicated listening
Welcome to the neutral zone. We get off track occasionally and get into it but, we quickly form peace negotiators and peace treaties.
qdc Superior, Japan exclusive release.
qdc’s first attempt for sub$100 market with single DD.
I still not able to assess the performance as out of box, it sounds very muddy, despite many high reputations I hear through my networks.
Hard to believe people would evaluate this muddy sound so highly, so I’m giving the driver some flex atm😄
It has 3khz ear gain dip tuning with rolled off treble, so the tuning is good for J-Pop and acoustics, where sometime 3khz gain peak may cause a fatigue.
It has a flush 2-pin connector not a QDC one… what are we going to call QDC connectors now?
My vote goes to “outies”
exactly.
It’s obviously aiming a different target from their high-end series as I can tell from the tuning, it’s made for bill-boards and pops. Where qdc-pin (with reverses polarity against KZ-c) isn’t very welcomed options.
Waiting your W4 review!
Btw I also was so annoyed by dongle’s handling and was working on to fix the battery drainage issue aside from handling (especially when you carry it around, a constant disconnect is a failure as an portable product)
One thing I forgot to write, which however must be noted, is that RU7 consumes a lot, especially in DSD256.
So take this into account, especially if you intend to use it paired with your smartphone.
It consumes noticeably more power than any other dongle I use (GOLD-BAR, W4-EX, and I believe even more than RU6).
Nicholas tried to joint my little french community. He claimed things way over his *ss when trying to hype his products (“my future iem will be way better than this 3x costier iem”). His behaviour wasn’t well received then. The recent outcome about reviewers and all doesn’t surprise me, sadly.
Please get yourself an iec711 coupler to measure your iems that most people do not seem to have.
