I definitely don’t like where the hobby is going.
The good news is that this fad will pass, but who knows what’s lurking around the corner.![]()
Oh god look what they’ve done to my boy ![]()
Despite the “Fear of The Tuck”, it basically looks like a baby MMKIV without a bass switch.
(Just pretend he’s singing about The Tuck instead of The Dark):
Well I just ordered a Braindance, and considered getting the Hype 4 as well to have a more midbass tuned alternative (based on the original hype 4 graph) so I’m glad I didn’t, with how similar those are, considering the Braindance looks much nicer to my personal taste.
I absolutely love the tuck when its done right - Its what makes the Fatfreq Deuce so amazing to me.
I agree the cut works great on Deuce. I was listening to Deuce last night and comparing it to Ziigaat Arcadia and I was baffled by how much more details is on the Deuce at every frequency.
I didn’t like the OG Hype 4 nor the BD so the hype4 mkII will be an automatic pass.
Ngl I quite liked the BDs when I had them in for review. I didn’t feel compelled to own them, but there was no doubt some dynamic listening going on.You’re going to enjoy them for sure!
Good to hear - Especially with the option to add an impedance adapter to turn them into warm bass cannons as well, which is a fun feature.
That bump in the mids is golden, gives the fundamentals a presence
that is sonic pleasure/sounds realistic.
Preceding that with a cut takes away from the purpose.

Take away “note weight” …tucks give a potential side effct of thinness to vocals and then pop them into forefront with forward mids and traditional ear gain.

It genuinely just makes ya wonder, doesn’t it?
Thanks to Linsoul and IEM Tour Group Europe i was able to demo Zigaat Horizon for a while and want to share some quick impressions
The only IEM from Zigaat i have demoed before was Estrella so i knew i could probably expect pretty high performance for the price and i was not disappointed.
Horizon first sounded a bit too bright for me with kinda brittle treble but changing Tips from Tri Clarion to Spinfit W1 did some wonders and after that i could really enjoy this IEM quite a bit!
- Built quality is nice. If you know one Zigaat IEM you know them all it feels like.
- Design was a bit underwhelming when seeing it for the first time but looks better in real life.
- The cable sucks. sorry. Tangly, rubbery and a chinidontwanttoslider are not my favourites
But more important is the sound
Bass: The bass quality is really something else. Especially the Midbass is something to write home about! It is tight and punchy, making every beat feel impactful. I do wish it had a bit more subbass for certain genres, it feels like it could use just a little more depth but it also is not lacking.
Mids: When it comes to the mids, it’s smooth sailing. Voices sound completely natural, and I really appreciated the clarity here. No complaints in this area at all!
The saxophone in “Les Deux Love Orchestra - Coltrane: Wise One” was especially remarkable.
Treble: The treble is very detailed and has an airy quality that adds a nice touch. However, sometimes it can get a bit too airy especially with the wrong tips which can make it sound a bit brittle. Spinfit W1 mostly solved that for me though.
I don´t perceive the stage as very wide but it is also not narrow and still quite open sounding, nothing to complain here, its enjoyable.
Afterall i very much enjoyed my time with this IEM and think it is tuned exceptionally well and i would recommend it (together with Cadenza 4) to someone who is looking for an IEM up to 300€
With you. My new BrainDance is supposed to arrive next week. A classic IEM! Can’t wait.
Enjoy yours!
Picked up 7Hz Diablo. Driver definitely improved after a few hours which I find is atypical of a planar. Bass started out very flabby but tightened nicely after a few hours of time out of my ears.
She’s still quite thick, as designed, but easily EQs to ‘match’ Divine. Also made a profile that is in between. So far they are quite nice, easy. Reserved but extended highs (I top out at 13kHz though…can’t hear above this). Bass is very well done, stock, for EDM, electronic…I don’t care for rap or hip-hop…but appreciate the talent. 80s rock and punk is filled in nicely. I do hear 60Hz power line frequency if whatever I’m using, DX180, DX340 or MacBook is plugged in…that’s a bummer and could be a problem for desktop use but no issue on battery.
Cable is junk. Sticky, stiff and way too heavy and thick. Why is this so hard to get right?
Also have the Inawaken Twilight DS. 4 DD in a double coax and 8 unknown BAs. DDs definitely took some time to settle. They are not basshead by any stretch but sound pretty good down low. Perhaps lacking a bit a texture but passable. Mids and treble is filled with life and texture and layers. Leans modestly bright but I don’t get any BA-timbre. Fit and isolation are very good. Nice pickup at $279 BF Amazon.
I’ve spent a few more hours with the Twilight DS. It’s quite source sensitive. The DX180 reveals it’s ever so slight coarseness up top and solid bass that can be a touch flabby with the T-DS however with DX340 and AMP13 there’s life and distortion, pleasing distortion except when it’s too much…with AMP15 balanced I like it best without 12V SG. Adding SG drops the texture out of the bass in a way I’ve not heard on less revealing IEMs. Always good to have choices for sources. T-DS scales more than everything else I have in the sub-$400 range.
The Yanyin Canon Pro is better in my opinion vs the T-DS. The bass scoop is a bit too much on the T-DS. Of course, EQ can take care of it but the BAs sound just a bit sweeter on the Yanyin. The T-DS might suit someone looking for more V-shaped scooped sound though. It does take decent power to control the 4 low end drives though…they sound quite flabby without enough voltage.
I enjoyed reading your review over on head-fi. I think that I need to try this set.
Thanks so much, brother. I appreciate you taking the time to say that - if you can get them for a steal of a price like some others have been saying, do it, they’re a fantastic beater pair.
I’ll have my review for the KBear Tourbillion coming out soon as well and id say those are even more of a banger set for the money. I reckon you can find those for around $60, which is genuinely insane to me. Worth every penny.
Question for the brain trust: I’m looking to buy an extension cable and came across Null Audio. Anyone have any experience with their products? Thanks!
The left one sums up my feelings quite nicely with the way the text is presented: “no”
No switches for me.
That is interesting, I really like the Deuce, but I have more fun listening to Arcadia. The tuck works as advertised, but make sets less engaging at the same time.
The comparison I always like to throw out is the Ziigaat Doscinco vs the Cincotres. They released at the same time. The bass tuck on Cincotres was very audible. That was when I learned that dull sets can be fixed with a couple extra db around 300Hz. I still rank Doscinco as a top set for me, but I sold my Cincotres within a few months.
I have been using Ziigaat Lush as my less bassy set lately, and I think the turned down treble makes them sound better, but holding onto the details, which is sort of the opposite effect of the bass tuck.
I am planning a next set once I have the funds, but what do you guys think of me getting the Hisenior Mega7 as my next one? Right now for the price for me it seems reasonable and I am really one of the guys who just loves an overall neutral sound or any set that has a variation to the neutral tuning. Sure I’ve had previously planned for the Mega5EST back then which did not worked out well, but this time I am going to make sure to try the Mega7 and get that set from a reputable seller, for I don’t want to repeat that same mistake that I did back then.
