Yep, honestly the lack of treble is less and less an issue. I did some A/Bing with the Canon and I get why it was hard to decide between the two. The Canon is a really amazing IEM and the detail and resolution on it is noticeably better than the Serial. It’s a tough decision.
Leyding is poppin, Kinera should definitely take notice, great way to present.
Didn’t realise you ordered a Moonlight @Tonytex_Teixeira! Cheers for the review! You should try the Canon!
Finally tried the well-praised IE600. Coming from a v-shaped iem, i set my expectations properly (not too much bass, more neutral presentation), but I’m surprised by the amount and quality of the bass. It hits & rumble beautifully. But it doesn’t over swing when it hits, or overstay it’s welcome when it rumbles.
“Well-controlled” seems to be the core DNA of this iem. It’s the rain that cools down the weather, but not too heavy till it flood your house. It’s the windy breeze that sweeps your hair but not too hard till blow away your pet.
The treble is sparkly, energetic but at times too hot with high hat, “S” & “T” s. Personally, I’m fine with it but i can see how it might be too much for some people.
The star of the show is definitely the midrange. Vocal are lush & velvety, string instruments shine & flourish. Rock tracks guitar strums & distorts deliciously, violin sings in angelic manner. It’s amazing.
The timbre is on point, instruments sounds how it should. The soundstage is pretty small/narrow, though still airy. It’s more “room” instead of “stage”. Not a deal breaker, just something to point out.
It’s very tips-sensitive. Using Spinfit 100/145 make it sounds very hollow while it performs best to me with Final e type. I also personally enjoyed using it with Azla Xelastec cuz it goes very deep, thanks to how small the iem is. The vocal shine even more, it becomes even more smooth and luscious, though high hats can get very hot, probably due to deep insertion.
It’s definitely worth experimenting with which tips suit u best.
Brief comparison with ie900 (brief because, well, I’m too poor for IE900😅) ,
both have similarly small/narrow soundstage, though i feel IE600 abit taller. IE600 definitely more “fun” thanks to the bass, and i find string instruments more enjoyable on IE600. Not sure whether due to the tuning or just how it is.
IE900 feels like a more neutral IE600, which seems to be the intention. But to me, IE900 have the hot treble but lack the sweet midrange & vocal from IE600. It feels like punishment without reward. I’m standing near a hot grill but there’s no meat on the grill. I’m sure some people would prefer the more neutral IE900 but it’s not for me.
Definitely recommend and well worth the pretty steep price😅. I can totally understand the hype now. Cable alil microphonic tho.
Latest review of the Yanyin Aladdin:
Yanyin knows how to tune! @rattlingblanketwoman first showed me the light last year, and now I’ve tried 2 of their 4 products. I can’t afford the Moonlight yet, but I’m happy with the Canon for now
Thought I’d share my post on BGVP eartips: Lets talk about your tips! ;) - #780 by ttorbic. Hot take: they make knock-offs of Final Type E and possibly AZLA
I mentioned on “what you’re listening to tonight” that the bass on a track made me feel like the Serial must be what bone conduction bass is like.
I didn’t expect to get a chance to see if I was right, but with a set that uses BC alongside a 10mm DLC for bass, for sure that is exactly what the Serial is somehow doing with its biocellulose bass driver.
The IEM with BC is the closest I have to replicating Serial bass, except here’s the thing - Serial bass is still better. Less fuzzy around the edges, and far more cohesive. The other set can be tuned with nozzles and filters to have higher quantity, that’s all.
Still reckon Serial’s complete tuning, very organic, is still what’s best for me right now.
Been spending the last two days playing with the squigs equalizer feature (shout-out to @hawaiibadboy for having so many graphs) and my favorite so far for the Serial has been a hybrid of the Serial and Olina double mesh mod graph. It adds just enough treble back in without changing what the goodness of the Serial
Love it that i can export eq settings to wavelet!!! Any recomendations for the S12 and Olina?
My advice for Olina is to bring down the treble to the HANA2021 or the O2.
For the S12, I recommend reducing the gain at 8KHz e.g. PK Fc 8000 HZ Gain -6 dB Q 4. It is hard to tell how much is coupler resonance related, so playing around after listening can be helpful. Raising the bass shelf is fun as well.
How do i install the exported wavlet files this produces?
When will Sennheiser make good IEMs? The wait continues, but is it worth it ?!
What app/program are you usng for EQ (NM Wavelet). Perhaps someone can help you.
I mostly use PEACE (Peter’s Equalizer APO Configuration Extension) which has no problem importing the Squig.link Equalizer Export txt PEQ files (not the Wavelet file export). Although, I usually drop the pre-amplifying gain down to -6.0 dB.
I think you might have to save the “Export Graphic EQ (For Wavelet)” with a ‘.csv’ extension instead of txt.
I also noticed that there are some ‘-0.0’ entries on the Wavelet export, this might cause issues, you might have to delete the ‘-’ infront of any ‘0.0’ although it might work fine without the change (IDK, I don’t use wavelet).
It is also important that not a single entry (of the 127 frequency ‘bands’) is deleted.

i use wavelet on Fiio M11 ltd dac
I have an S12 EQ setting that is labelled as “S12 Bass-o-matic”, and it is basically a +6db low shelf at 166, which is enough to give it some slam. I use Peace/APO on PC.
I get headaches, but still need some music to work sometimes, so I also have a profile that drops the 4-8k range, since that is usually where most of my problems are. I can have a headache and listen quietly with the right EQ.
I thought most people were saying good things about the IE600, despite the prices, and being out of stock all the time.
Agreed, I recall RBW telling us all about the Aladdin last year, and many people have raved about the Canon. Yanyin seem to really know what they are doing on the tuning side. The Moonlight seems good from the few reviews I have seen, and the Rosemary is the only one I don’t know any about.
I have the IE300 and I think they’re phenomenal, actually. Particularly on my RebelAmp they sound so good. Was just listening to them, I think I like them better than my Katos (which are also great).
I’m past the point of anything I purchase reaching me before a trip of over a month long – it’ll be interesting, with the Serial and Vernus in hand, to see if I grow closer or further to both or either of them. Some forced stability.
Edit: If nothing else, the Serial continues to please on every listen. Some recent albums: Volcano by Temples, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah by the band of the same name, Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood. All have very satisfying mids for vocals, and just the right amount of bass, always.
So why have I even been looking at other possibilities? It’s a question for the ages. I should listen more and shop classifieds less. I just have more opportunities to flick through classifieds in a matter of seconds than I do to sit down, block my ears, and listen to music for a while.
EDIT: I may not get my Iris 2.0 back from my wife any time soon , but in earbuds world, a prototype of the Berserker 1 (different driver, similar bass but different mids/treble apparently) is probably the last thing that will reach me before the trip. @MMag05 is an absolute legend.
I’ve got the Vernus in, and have hopped back to “atmospheric” from “reference” nozzles. It’s a great experience, apart from sometimes the sub bass extension ending just a little too early. Phenomenal technicalities otherwise.
One potentially big issue for home use at the least — sound leakage is massive.
If I take them out of my ears, and seal off the eartips with my fingers, everything can still be heard very clearly coming out of the numerous vents.
So the ideal listening time would be alone time like driving in the car or doing the dishes, but at least one of those creates enough ambient noise that the sound leakage might cause a reverse issue, ie: poor isolation.
It’s a real shame, the Eclipse driver tech is in its own league, but probably requires this level of venting.
Plus these fit me better than almost any other IEM. Usually shells are a little out of my ears, these nest inside, right up against whatever they’re meant to be. All the more surprising that sound can still leak out of the vents that must be right up against skin or close to it.
Not really, look at the Zen/Zen-Pro.
Couldn’t remember what their venting was like, thanks
