JAY's audio memes (and reviews/ranking too I guess)

Thanks, I stand corrected. Inverted, fine. Out of phase, yeah it’s noticable no doubt.

This is in phase and correct polarity

This is out of phase, audible.

This is in phase but inverted polarity

(drawing is supposed to be 2 round DDs to a 3.5mm jack with 4 wires.)

Inverted polarity is very subtle and the vast majority of listeners won’t be able to hear it, but out of phase is very noticeable - instruments and vocals feel very out of place with the imaging. It’s hard to hear inverted polarity unless you’re harman trained, 53% means you’re just guessing at that point, a good confidence rating would be 80%+

It does but its subtle and almost doesn’t matter , like the bass is kind of less rumbly and less impactful on the inverted one, and the imaging is off.

Wired is much easier than the tws :sunglasses: the difference in wired is actually noticeable and the correct polarity sounds better.

Have to test with a good quality IEM , let’s see

Nice one @VIVIDICI_111! These ones seem a bit focal centric for my tastes (I liked the subbass on Estrella), but still impressive at the price point.

That’s spot on. Out-of-phase is easy to spot because it messes with the imaging—vocals and instruments just don’t feel right. Inverted polarity is subtler, though, affecting things like attack and timbre without changing spatial cues as much. And yeah, with a 53% accuracy rate, it’s more guessing unless you’re trained. Do you think inverted polarity might be more noticeable in certain acoustics or rooms, even for trained ears?

Excuse me for making a mess of the polarity and phases here. I changed my set to the correct one and now everything is working as it should. Thanks to Jay for recommending Odyssey. I like how Ziigaat handles slow Rock. I would like to get recommendations from you guys on the selection of headphones for genres such as Psy trance, electronic music with a lot of texture, IDM. The purchase amount is up to $500.

Preaching to the choir here, but Estrella would be good for that if you don’t think you’d find the treble too spicy. It’d be a good contrast to Odyssey.

Kiwi Ears Punch too.

Thanks for the recommendation. I prefer high-quality bass, but I don’t like a lot of it. I probably would like the bass to be something in between and not fast and not slow. Fast for psy trance and slower attenuation for IDM.

How do you find the Odyssey for that music? No bassy enough or too bassy? What about the treble?

Hi, I’m fine with high frequencies if they’re cooked properly. Initially, I did not think that Odyssey could be suitable for my electronic playlist. I listened to a few tracks from the discography of Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd. And I found problems with the phase, then I was exchanged for a normal set. And after your message, I listened to my electronic playlist again. Aes Dana, Astrix and others. I would like a little more presence of bass and sub-bass on electronic genres. I like the bass in Odyssey, it’s very good in quality. I’m thinking of trying Hype 4 or Oracle mk3 for electronic sessions.

Phase? You might just have the cables mixed up. If you mean polarity then maybe. I’d go Hype 4 personally
