I love that everyone is trying not to laugh, lol.
I don’t know if anybody mentioned them, but Diana Krall and Madeleine Peyroux have a lot of very well recorded/mastered tracks with some great female vocals
I agree, all of the Diana Krall albums are really well mastered. (Got them all).
the jazz i like is less…
conventional
machine gun by peter brottzmann intensifies
Dinah Washington - Cry Me A River
Grover Washington Jr. Just the Two of Us
Chesky 30th Anniversary Collection is very well recorded
(also I enjoy Nu Jazz or electrojazz like Masego or French Kiwi Juice maybe not very well mastered but discovery new music make me happy)
I listen mainly to modern and Scandinavian jazz. This seems to me very underrepresented here and I would like to introduce 4 bands with 2 songs each from their career. All 4 artists have very good recording quality.
Esbjörn Svensson Trio (e.s.t.)
- swedish Jazz, not for relaxation
- Esbjörn Svensson was probably one of the best jazz pianists ever RIP
- e.s.t. on JazzBaltica with From Gagarin’s Point of View was probably the best concert of my life
- the album “Strange Place for Snow” should be known by every jazz fan
Bound for the Beauty of the South - Strange Place for Snow
From Gagarin’s Point Of View - From Gagarin’s Point Of View
Tingvall Trio
- swedish piano, great drums and double bass
- inspired by e.s.t. but more listenable
- a lot of fun live
Den Ensamme Mannen - Vägen
Bumerang - Cirklar
GoGo Penguin
- UK jazz
- simpel but gerat piano, double bass and often electronic drums
- easy to listen, happy
Last Words - Fanfares
All Res - Man Made Object
Paul Motian Trio
- old US jazz
- amazing classic that is still missing in the topic
- I recommend buying original vinyl pressings instead of digital
Folk Song For Rosie - Le Voyage
It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago - It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago
Miles Davis Kind of Blue
John Coltrane Blue Train
Dave Brubeck. Time Out
Art Blakey. A night in Tunisia
Bill Evans. Portrait in Jazz
Charles Mingus. Mingus Ah Um
Chet Baker. In New York
I’ve been listening to some Sonny Rollins recently
Horace Tapscott, The Dark Tree
simply cannot go wrong with “Blue” or “time out”
Not classic jazz but highly recommend entire album ( Cochemea - All My Relations).
Anything from Cannonball Adderley or Stan Gets, João Gilberto.
This is “It’s on” by George duke. For me he brings some soul to jazz that nobody else does. Of course my own opinion xD but seriously you should check him out. https://youtu.be/ZYElT-ISaEo
Anything by Miles Davis or John Coltrane… Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Count Basie, Monk, Art Blakey, Sarah Vaughan, Sonny Rollins, and Louis Armstrong are all good starting points.
Europe has a pretty vibrant jazz scene. Check out Bugge Wesseltoft for some Norwegian jazz grooves.
Check out Shiny Stockings and Fried Bananas by Dexter Gordon. You will not regret it

[]()I rediscovered Marcus Miller this last week. Love the electric jazz bass! I’ve been listening to a lot of Christian Mcbride on his double bass, and switching over to an electric bass was a great contrast.
…that’s new to me. Thanks.
