Just bit the bullet, got a Liquid Spark & X2HR

So yea, that happened…
Just spent around 300 bucks to purchase the headphones, the amp and a 3.5mm to RCA cable.

What I’m hoping to achieve is take the output from my motherboard (Check my other post to figure out why; TLDR the DAC is quite decent) and boost it so I can actually enjoy both the SHP9500S and the new X2HR.

I did think about getting a Schiit Magni Heresy, but the return policy is kinda iffy when living outside the US (Paying for shipping costs almost 3/4 of the price for the unit), and I found the spark on Amazon which takes returns no questions asked.

I’m going to keep using my Syba for the microphone input as it works pretty well with the VModa Boom Pro.

I’ll report anything I find, and I’ll redo the comparison I did before

Congrats! I haven’t heard those cans but I have the LS. It’s a little amp that can. Enjoy.

pretty good place to start with this hobby (and really familiar place to start too lol) :+1: honestly I think the LS is the better pairing too IMO … hope you enjoy it

Nice pick up. I own and enjoy the Liquid Spark. I picked up the X2HR’s for about $99.00 at Christmas time. They are a VERY nice $100.00 headphone. I only kept them for about a month as I wanted to compare them to the HD58X’s.
My result was that the X2’s had more bass, but the 58X’s were better for vocals.

That Liquid Spark will serve you well down the road as you eventually hunt for better headphones. I had mine sold about ten days ago and then I chickened out. I put it in my office set-up. It is so good and so cheap, it just doesn’t make sense to sell it.

That would’ve been a mistake… it’s a piece of budget gear I think I’ll always have on the desk

You are wise. We only lose money when we actually sell. I have two amps to sell and after that I am never selling gear again!

It will just be trade (if it’s interesting enough) or keep from then on.

Well then I guess I made the right call! Was about to buy the A30 but said “why not treat myself with something a bit better” :stuck_out_tongue:

xD. The more I look into it, the more I believe it was the right call

Definitely the right call in that case

spark is phenomenal, loved mine. as i am buying a sundara soon i kind of regret giving the spark to my sis lol

How is the X2HR? I’m going to buy my dad a gift pair of headphones. I was eyeing the Beyer DT 770 and DT 990. But also at the Sennheiser 599SE and the X2HR. All are around the $100 price range.

Very bassy wide sounding and overall a nice laid back fun sound

I saw your other thread. I’m curious why you left the Dt880 out of your options. I’ve got the Dt770 and the X2HR, but I prefer the Dt880 over those. Any particular reason you’re not looking at the Dt880?

The DT880 was a bit more expensive than the other options. But if it drops to like ~$140-$150. I’d definitely consider it.

I was able to grab mine open box from Amazon for less than $100. Looks like all they have right now is a 250ohm for $133. Not sure if you’d want to try that, but it might be something to keep an eye on.

Yeah. I was looking at the 600 ohm version. I am still a beginner to tubes, but do higher impedance headphones work better with tubes? I think I remembering reading something like that.

Otherwise, 250 ohms are fine. My main thing is that as a gift I would rather buy new than used. If it was for me personally, I’d definitely be fine with used.

Typically yes, also depends on what tube amp you are going for

Also the 600 ohm beyers overall preform better than the 250 ohm imo, better technicalities and more refined, but harder to drive

I was also looking at the DT 990 but decided against it due to some reviews classifying them as more “analytical” vs “fun”.
