Just bit the bullet, got a Liquid Spark & X2HR

The 990 is pretty fun, but it’s also pretty revealing as well, but I think they are v shaped enough that they are fun enough (but not as fun as the x2hr imo)

Entirely depends on the specific tracks you are listening to. But I find them super fun

Just realized I may have messed up… The headphones and the 3.5mm to RCA cable arrived today. The issue being that the cable I ordered is 3 meters long, while I only needed a 1 meter cable. Oops.
I hope the extra cable doesn’t catch any magnetic interference or degrades the signal because of the length…

Should be okay, just try not to let it get too close to wireless transmitters or power sources/cables.

Hmm… So, I’ve been playing around with the X2HR, and while it does sound nice, I think I’m going to return them.
They are way too “fun” for my liking, and the mids aren’t as good as I’d like for orchestral or rock types music
Maybe I’ll get a pair of DT880s

I do want to wait for the Liquid Spark to see if it makes any difference before I return them

Interesting, did you feel the bass or high were too exaggerated or something? To consider them to fun. I’m curious. And the detail and seperation of beyers is great but if you want a more mid centric headphone a senheiser might work out better. I had a 58x, had phenomenal mids

knowing the spark their gonna make them a little more fun. for that kind of music the dt 880 is definitely a great route to go

The bass is a bit too extreme for my liking, specially when you consider it sort of “drowns” the mids, which I don’t really appreciate for orchestral music as a lot of instruments are overwhelmed by the bass.

Tbh I was looking for something that’d feel like I’m in a concert hall with the orchestra performing there. So, I might give the DT880s a try as, from what I gather, they sound more natural

So I would agree the x2 is pretty fun at the expense of refinement and coherency imo. It works well if you want wide bass cannons, but it’s pretty sloppy with overwhelming bass that clouds the mid-range and isn’t really that technically proficient

You seem to have a lot of headphones lying around, heh.
Would you recommend the DT880s for my use case, or would you choose something else like some senheizers?

So, what is your main goal for the upgrade? What did you like about the x2, and what would you change?

Yeah kinda lol

I wanted to have a pair with a little bit more bass (not as much as the X2s added) and more detail and separation than my SHP9500S

And also a pair without that much sound leak would be nice, :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah well that complicates things lol. The 880 would most likely leak a similar amount, is the leak on your shp acceptable?

Yea, it’s acceptable

DT 177X Go?

Hmmm, well the 880 600 does sound up your alley, I would be mildly concerned about leak, it might be a bit more than the shp, but (it’s been a while since I heard the leak of the x2) a bit less than the x2 leak

If you can get one outside of the US lol

Right, budget. Err, these are way out of my league (for now), as I’m looking at getting a pair of cans for about 200 USD. So the DT 1990/1770 are out of the picture

Hmmm, so I would say perhaps consider taking the risk on the 880 600 as imo it seems up your alley, the hd58x also seems up your alley but it’s not the best at separation and isn’t as detailed as the 880 600 ohm, but it does have a warmer more intimate sound that’s pretty enjoyable, and the leak is about the same as the shps

I’ll take a plunge for the DT880, as getting the 58X from Drop will be a PITA to return if I don’t like them (which is why I love Amazon…)
