Just bit the bullet, got a Liquid Spark & X2HR

God dammit, now I found that the AKG K702s are also on Amazon for the exact same price as the DT 880s and the DT 990s… WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OPTIONS, MY HEAD HURTS FROM DOING SO MUCH RESEARCH!

IMO I would personally prefer the 880 600 over the 702, but that’s just me. The 880 is going to be more neutral with more detail and more accurate staging imo. The 702 has eh detail and is kinda a bit unrefined, wide soundstage though

Jesus Christ, now I’m going to make the question. And what about the DT 1990… I may be able to get them used for a price closer to 250 USD, which would be close enough to my budget to justify getting them

Wow that’s really good, are they in good working condition? I mean, those would be pretty high tier

From what I can gather, yes. Haven’t been able to test them, one of my friends who is an audio engineer has a used pair, and he might be willing to sell them for about 250-300 USD. So, there’s that as well…

I mean, I would personally go for that at that price, that’s pretty great and I don’t think you would find much else at 250 in the same tier of performance

Well damn. Color me impressed
Today I got the Liquid Spark. Of course, first thing I did was just plug in the Fidelio X2HRs into it and listen to a couple different pieces. I actually was able to enjoy them quite a lot!
It’s very impressive how much difference a good amp can make. Went from bass sounding like farts to a pleasant bass that doesn’t just rumble.
Also managed to notice something, I’m not sure what the cause of it is, I’m assuming it’s the songs themselves, but I was able to hear a very annoying high pitched noise on most songs above the 18KHz frequency (yea, I’m 22 and I can still hear the very annoying high frequencies…), maybe specifically at 19KHz. I’m going to assume it’s the songs as I simply applied a bandreject filter to my audio output, cutting anything over 18KHz and it went away.
This also led me to believe part of the unpleasantness I was experiencing with the Fidelio was a result of the high frequencies which I hadn’t been able to pinpoint as my previous amp simply lacked the detail to make it stand out from other highs.

The Spark still needs to have it’s burn-in time (100 hours according to the manual, this is going to be fun :stuck_out_tongue: ), but so far it’s been a purchase I’m not regretting at all.
