Iām interested on your take here. Did you go with the Cobalt or the Red? What kind of sound would you describe?
Iām sorry, if it makes you feel better I have a $1200 stack that the DFC has a hard time competing with. Soā¦ spend more money and order of the universe will be balanced again?
Cobalt because why not and it came with usb c dragontail for my phone. Will listen for a bit longer before I comment on the sound.
But does it make the HP-3ās sound better? Because Iām set on this being my endgame can and if I have to spend more on a dac/amp then Iād rather keep the X8/RebelAmp combo and go for a different can.
I will 100% say your end game is 100% your own. The RNHP + BF2 + LCD X mad me quite happyā¦ But that doesnāt work for everyone (even seen on the forums). For me the GS X mini + Abyss Diana Phi + some unknown DAC I think will be my end gameā¦ But if you listen to anyone here is that we tend to really enjoy more than just 1 style of music (even that is generalization saying all music in the same category is the same) you may need different gear to get what YOU want out of the music.
Would I expect the DFC + HP-3 to keep up with the most intricate and layered edm or classical? No. Does it handle blues, jazz, and pop surprisingly well? Yeah. What you are hearing with the DFC + HP-3 is a sliver of what I expect Sennheiser or ZMFās on a tube amp. But going back to āis this end gameā? If you are stupidly happy with what you have at any timeā¦ Stop. Thatās end game. The winner of the endgame story is who finds what they call end game the fastest and cheapest possible to make them happy. Alsoā¦ End game isnāt only game either. Everyone on a forum like this will find ways to spend money so there is plenty to chase after. But if you are happy? Just stop and enjoy, donāt mess with what you think is perfection.
Iām trying to get to the same point as I did with my PC. Built them for years. Every year was a reason to look at new parts despite minimal improvements. Bought a Corsair One two years ago. Havenāt wanted to look at anything else since.
I feel you man like most people here have similar experience. I have been building pcās and always be n the chase for faster cpu gpu ect. Then I reached the point where I realized I am not feeling much of a difference and every other upgrade would be too costly. So I am fine with my pc for almost 3 years. Bought notebook despite needing it tough.
Then I somehow got into this rabbit hole. But I think I am getting to the same place. With IEMs I am already there. With HP will see after Eikons on the board but I love HP-3 and with other gear I am waiting for rebel amp just to have point of comparison with what I use now and test if I can hear the difference. If not I will be calm for a while.
Not calling it end game tough, just getting my spending and madness to level of reasonable person.
Perhaps a bargain for some of you?
Wait, too many headphones? What kind of BS is this?
Donāt kill the messenger. I just got the feeling there are guys here who are seeking HP-3 for under 800, and this one is negotiable so it probably can go below. Thereās nothing in it for me except a possibility to make someone happy.
Sorry if thatās upsetting you or anybody else. Iām also not responsible for sellerās marketing BS. What matters in the end is if thereās someone interested.
Iām pretty sure @DagoRedās comment was intended as a joke lol
But man I really wish I jumped on that Adorama sale when these went for $700. Even if I didnāt like them I could have sold at no loss. Hopefully theyāll bring it back one day.
I will be selling mine I am sure after my Eikons get here.
I am actually surprised you didnāt return them after the cup fell off. Would have been my immediate reaction.
I tried, was denied. But honestly the only thing I need to make them good as new is a touch of loctiteā¦ thank you covid for interrupting that process for a bit.
The next part of my budget is going to be set aside to grab a Dragonfly Cobalt (maybe Red) to pair these with, after @DagoRedās suggestion and @DDT confirming the sound. Sounds like a winning combination.
Donāt do it! It sounds too good and makes you hate other gear!!!
Your son has some skill with the camera! These look great!
Beautiful! I said it before and Iāll say it again, I love that ebony color.
I was wondering if anyone uses the Rebel amp with the HP-3 and if so how does it sound. I have the SMSL SP200 which is great but I was wanting to see how a good class A would sound with the HP-3, as well as my Ananda and other HPs I have. For me $500 is a lot to spend on an amp so I want to make sure itās something Iām going to like.
