đŸ”¶ KOSS ESP/95x

Yeah, did this buzzing just happen today or has it been happening for a few days now?

Hmmm yeah it could either be dust or a noisy energizer. Mine acted up for a few days then calmed down after I left it on just playing music for a few days and gave it a bit of compressed air (but don’t go too close as you don’t want to put too much force on the diaphragm). If that doesn’t work, then just send it into koss

I love my ESP 95x, but am thinking about getting Vesper earpad replacements. Does anyone have experience with vesper earpads on 950s or 95x’s? The choices are overwhelming - particularly how thick I should make the pads (their most purchased is 20mm), whether it’s worth getting angled pads (I don’t think so), etc. If I do get pads, I’ll likely go alcantara with memory foam. I would love super thick pads, but worry it will ruin the sound.

I picked up the Dekoni pads when Drop had them, and I like them. They are close, if not exactly the same size as the original pads, but more comfortable. I don’t know for certain if thicker pads would affect the sound, but my guess would be yes.

They do sound kinda close to stock pads, but give it some nice bass extension and a tad of elevation

Yeah, the sound didn’t change too much, which was what I wanted. Same sound, less itchy

Sweet! Exactly what I wanted to hear. What were the specs you chose for your pads? I’m a bit of a copycat

This was the Drop link from when I bought them:

Maybe @PushFaderCashCheck can give an idea if/when they may be available again. If not, they have them available directly from their website:

It looks like the pads from KOSS are pleather and not cloth material, correct? Hard to believe they are only $5

Why were you triple amping? What do you get out of that?

Also, why would you want to give the Koss system a “tubey” sound? Kind of defeats the purpose doesn’t it?

Most likely to improve timbre and create a more natural sound, which is one of the weak points of the 95x imo.

I did that with a Schiit Loki.

I just don’t see mixing the Sparkle of an electostat and the bloominess of a very tubey tube amp.

That’s fair, my estats live on a tube amp lol

What estats on what amp? Is it a thick, boomy amp?

What does a tube amp give you that the energizer or energizer/Loki can’t?

It’s a very refined amp, clean yet natural, real nice stuff. I use a woo 3es elite with the following estats: the shangri la sr, sennheiser he60s, the 95x with a stax adapter, and then some stax 007mk2 and 003mk2

What does it do for the sound though?

WOW, you have some set-up! I looked at the Nimbus amp. Yikes! :open_mouth:

So why I like the woo amp: it has very very good control over the headphones, it’s pretty accurate and isn’t harsh but isn’t overly smooth, maintains what I like about estats. It also improves timbre and gives a bit more natural presentation to the headphones (which imo is the largest drawback of estats), and it also gives it nice bass response that isn’t elevated, but it fills it out nicely.

Would I rec the woo amp? Absolutely not, it’s overpriced (although it does offer top tier performance), and you can get better bang for the buck

I learn something here every single day!

What do you think the MAD would do to the E95X system?

If I recall correctly the mad actually doesn’t do anything to the signal with the tubes, it might actually be a pass through/ volume control and not interact with the tubes whatsoever. There is a difference from driving something with tubes vs having a tube preamp/buffer. I think if you wanted to improve your 95x tbh I would just get a koss to stax adapter and grab a better energizer. Just adding a tube into the input stage will not accomplish what I have mentioned above (at least to that extent, it might make it sound a bit more natural but it won’t really be that drastic as driving with tubes)
