Let's talk about computers

Yeah chillers are great but dont run them 0 below, VERY BAADDDD. otherwise they work amazingly

I forgot about that. :man_facepalming:

for anyone that’s wanting to upgrade to an AMD system, I would recommend considering a few courses of action:

  1. hobble along with what you have and wait for Ryzen 4000 to arrive in September and see if any new chipsets are released as well.
    or
  2. buy a B550 motherboard, which are coming mid-June, grab a 3300X, oc the snot out of it and wait for the release of the Ryzen 4000 and buy the CPU you want then.
    or
  3. of you plan on getting the 12 or 16 core Ryzen 4000 CPU when it’s released, but cannot exercise patience or refuse to hobble along any longer, get an X570 and a 3300X, oc the snot out of it and buy the 4800X or 4900X when available. why the X570? as it’s unlikely there will be any B550 mobo’s with a VRM setup strong enough to handle the power load they need. actually, it’s likely one or two boards will be made that can, but the savings won’t be worth getting the X570…or if someone does make one, it won’t be available until well after the June launch.

So basically WAIT, exactly what I tell people haha. Especially if they want a laptop. Ryzen 4000 mobile is insane.

why not just buy a Tripp Lite SRCOOL12K for the PC room, get a Noctua D15 (it is still the KING) and use the really low ambient temperature from the A/C to let you OC the snot outta your CPU. just make sure to duct the heat exhausted by the D15 at you, so you don’t freeze

the Ryzen 4000 mobile APU’s are gonna be awesome! the 4900H, 4800H & 4800U are all 8 core / 16 thread CPU’s. the H have higher base and boost clocks and are meant for workstation / gaming notebooks while the 4800U is a ultra low voltage processor meant for thin / light notebooks. I can’t imagine having any sort of ultrabook with that much power!

and then there’s the 4700U that’s just 8 cores, no SMT…the 4600U that’s 6 cores / 12 threads and the 4500U that’s just 6 cores, so SMT. they will also round out the low end with 4 core / 8 thread and 4 cores with no SMT options as well.

and the icing on the cake? these will use DDR4 3200mhz RAM and all have some form of RX Vega iGPU, which beat the snot out of Intel’s current mobile iGPU.

That only works if you live in Siberia or something or have special refrigerator chamber built for your pc.

On the Air vs. Water thing. I am planning on building my next pc with a custom loop and hard tubing. I’m probably not going OC the shit out of it, but I’m going to do it because I want to.

In case the rumors about the APU in the XboXseX are true, then AMD could just put that thing on some mainboard and have the real winner on their hands.

I hope that they do that with RDNA2 as well.

Honestly I want Intel to get some good CPUS rolling, Too keep this AMD train SPEEDING ahead while keeping em cheap af. Otherwise I can bet AMD will just switch places with INTEL xD

How would AMD do that exactly?

probably not until Zen3+ or Zen4. AMD really screwed the pooch when they decided to use previous gen designs with current gen naming scheme for their APU’s.

what I’m hoping for is that they will release an 8 core / 16 thread APU for the desktop, like they have for mobile all we have are 4 core / 8 thread models that are nice, but kinda underwhelming really. alas, the only info I’ve read is for leaks on a couple Zen2 APU’s that were only 4 cores. :frowning:

I mean if Intel LEGIT CANT keep up which I doubt, It wouldnt make sense for amd to keep pushing when they can do just what intel did and just milk everyone xD. But looking at those stats its actually impressive AMD manged to kick intels arse so BADLY intel is like 10x bigger haha.

That’s actually why I need it, Rendering 4-8K video from raw files

Well some those employees are in manufacturing which Intel does itself, unlike AMD whose products are assembled by TSMC.

People say that AMD arnt that good cos they use TSMC to produce but I dont understand how thats a valid point. xD
