Looks like we have the first good post 12th gen sale for Ryzen. Microcenter has the 5800X for $300.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Vermeer 3.8GHz 8-Core AM4 Boxed Processor - Heatsink Not Included - Micro Center
That’s a great deal. I paid full price one back when it was the only obtainable zen3 processor and the only way I would’ve been happier is to have snagged it on a deal like this one.
ya im thinking of getting one myself once amazon matches the prices, don’t really see the need to go next-gen at least for now.
My 3600 has been doing just fine with most of my workloads, but getting a 5800 will certainly be nice if you get at a good price
It’s close enough to Black Friday that I’d hold off, if I were you. There could very well be some pretty good deals this year from AMD given how good Alder Lake has turned out to be.
I actually think the better deals will be a little after black friday- around Xmas maybe the start of 2022, it will a bit of time take until folks start jumping on the bandwagon
Oh, there should definitely be even better deals in Q1 when AMD launches their Zen3 chips with 3D V-cache, but I wasn’t sure if you were looking to wait that long, so I didn’t mention it.
ya then you might get tempted to jump on the Zen 3 and that is a slippery slope my friend
When you have a new monitor but it flickers at 144Hz, which sucks and I feel for my friend. No luck of reinstalling GPU drivers, monitor’s not broken when he received it, alas he can only run it well with the 60Hz refresh rate even though his monitor is capable at running at 144Hz.
A few questions what kind of GPU/monitor is he running?
he might have some luck tried switching cables or switching ports (on the GPU and the monitor), could be he is using a slow port and that flickering is actually the bandwidth being chocked
I have the same problem, which seems to be pretty common. It’s been happening ever since I upgraded to 3070 and updated to the latest drivers and it only happens when I’m browsing, so it’s not that big of a deal.
He’s using a Galax GTX 1050Ti 4GB with a DPI cable, quite of an odd case. I mean it’s like this, it flickers when he uses a single monitor with the 144Hz refresh rate on, but if he uses 2 monitors, dual monitors it doesn’t flicker anymore. I am like WTF, that’s quite weird.
Let’s hope it’s not a hardware issue from your GPU or even your monitor, because buying those two can be damn expensive nowadays, especially your video card with the prices inflated as hell. I came to a conclusion that it might be faulty cable or some driver issues from my friend.
It’s probably not, like I said it started happening after I updated to the latest drivers. Weirdly I only notice it when I’m watching yt videos, other than that it’s pretty unnoticeable or it doesn’t happen at all.
Well Ho-HUM!! My laptop won’t boot Windows anymore. The hardware itself seems OK as it is letting me do a file backup and recovery. I really didn’t want to buy a new laptop right now. Oh well, if I gotta, I gotta! Let’s see if I can recover this one first. Kinda dumb, though. It’s end of life and end of support, so it might be time for a new one. Sigh… LOL
Strange thing, though. I have the V40 running the system and it’s friggin’ great! Now I am starting to think the PC is not the best source. Time to go DAP? I’m thinkin on it now…
Ya, i had an old PC die out on me recently but its 12-year-old hardware so it was already on narrowed time. Personally, I went for a mini PC, since most i just need it to run Tidal if you don’t have to go mobile that might work for you too, but i also spent way too much on parts for my PC (last part should be here at the end of the month)
Sorry for responding so late, were you able to fix it? If not I would suggest trying bootrec commands in recovery command prompt
Hey! Thanks for responding. No worries. I was able to recover it. HW diags showed no failures. HP troubleshooting utilities gave me the option to try a system restore, so I picked a restore point from about a week ago, and it worked! It’s been 2 days now and so far, all is well.
I’m pleased it recovered. I’ll have to replace it soon eventually, but perhaps I bought myself some time.
just upgraded to a 5800X . temps reached 91 degrees on prime 95 yikes. loos like Ill wait till the long weekend and repaste it with kryonaut or something probably use a different spread method as well.
What kind of a cooler are you using?
