Let's talk about computers

be quite dark rock pro 4. I think its a mounting issue cause I mounted it in the case and CAn’t say I did the best job of it. I plan on case swapping soon so I may just remount it then. right now eco mode works fine cause I play on 1440p anyway. only game so far that seems to not like eco mode is battlefield 2044 but there ore issues than just frames in that game right now

It could be, but afaik temps on zen 3 are really high. My 5600X had no problem getting to 95C in AIDA64 with the stock cooler and even over that/bluescreened once I undervolted it.

2013 iMac that was going spare at work. I do care about computers, but I can’t have nice headphones and a nice computer.

I think you could justify a nice computer for your nice headphones.

the 5800x has design issues that make it the hottest SKU in the lineup. I may just spend a bit of time afterwards undervolting it and calling it a day. I’ve also been avoiding water cooling for so long I might go for that as well. and chuck the be quite in a second system for the living room

I can’t justify money out of thin air though. To be honest I shouldn’t have nice headphones either.

Honestly for a 5900X it probably makes sense. I want to build a custom loop myself, but air cooling will do for now.

5800x, but I was just ggonna go with an AIO cause mounting it is easier than this be quite cooler. I just need a case cause I would top mount it

One of my desktops is a 5800X, it’s being cooled by an EK-AIO 360 RGB. It’s running PBO and I’ve only touched into the 80s under test loads. Another good option if you didn’t want to go EK would be the Arctic Liquid Freezer series.

thos are the exact coolers I was considering

Ya i got the basic EK 360 for my 5800X, still waiting on some parts but im hoping to get somewhere around 70s

If there’s ever a time for to me get a CPU upgrade, even though my CPU is still good at playing any games that I own, I just hope my Deepcool Assassin 3 would be good enough to cool a CPU like the 5800X since its temps are on the hotter side compared to the Ryzen CPUs.

No upgrades for me right now though, only would do so when some part or component went absolutely haywire or could not just keep up with the recent apps anymore.

@RiceGuru If you have your cooler mounted and pasted correctly I wouldn’t worry about it much unless you are doing something that constantly hammers all cores. I just lowered PBO limits on my 5800x and went on with life on a Noctua D15. No loss in single core performance and its something like ~7-10% worse on synthetic tests.

The boost behavior of modern CPUs (and GPUs) uses a ton of power and generates extra heat for that final 10% of performance.

5800X probably not that thing need either something like a noctua nh-d15 or a decent AIO, but something like a 5600X an Assassin 3 should be able to handle fairly well. But it also depends on your overall airflow in the case.

Yeah it does, and I think I should not be worry about that since the case that I got this year is the Lian Li Lancool 215, and for the price it’s a very good case and indeed has a lot of airflow on it. Going to need some new fans for the chassis though since I am aiming for a subtle light look instead of your typical light show build, not really a fan of RGB but I can see why there are some people appeal to it.

the 215 is a solid case, i just bought the 4000D airflow
If you want something subtle take a look at the Lian Li UNI Fan SL120, 2 major benefits

  1. The RGB isn’t on the fan itself but on the frame, meaning its much more subdued
  2. it has an interconnect that help you reduce cable cluter

Yeah I saw those fans but I think I am going to stick with the ones with no lighting on the fans at all, regardless if its the fan that is the lighting or its frame, for I already have enough components that are already a light show and I am reducing that.

I think the Deepcool TFS120 is a good start to have for my case, if I am going to aim that sleek look.

Anyone else hear about this snake oil? XD The things people will fall for

Yeah, it had popped up in my Facebook feed (now that I think about it, I saw it on Tom’s as well). I’ll stick with my 2TB 980 Pro thanks…
