Let's talk about computers

I don’t know that I’d say it’s all lies. There are some truths sprinkled in.

You can also say to high-fidelity audio as well, hell it can be said to every business that is existing at the moment. It’s rare nowadays for companies to provide transparency to their customers and even full blown honesty, because money + greed = fuck your honesty, because I want your money, because that’s how the world is being ran.

Anyone ready for mainstream (not HEDT or limited run boards) topping $1300? Holy fuck!

Early adopter tax is a bitch
Also dont forget about DDR5 pricing as well

Now is a good time to sit back and wait a year or two

All the same… The cost of parts is nuts… I’m probably going to just upgrade my first gen Ryzen system to 5000 series and forgo Zen 4 cause of those prices…

Ya i jumped on that boat a while ago and got a 5800X, great CPU runs a little toasty but nothing that a good cooler cant handle

Yeah, I don’ think I am upgrading my rig anytime soon, especially with the fluctuation of prices lately. I think it’s inevitable that the PC building hobby is no longer that accessible to most people nowadays, unlike back then.

It wasn’t that long ago it was actually really easy to get a decent gaming computer… Now it’s a down payment on a fucking car

Might as well go with a 5000 series chip for now and just be content with the current video card I have as well. I don’t see the reason on getting a 4000 series RTX from Nvidia or even the possible newer cards from AMD and Intel. I am going to stick with my build, just need a bit of polishing like an additional SSD and a CPU upgrade and it will be all golden for me.

I could stick with my current motherboard and I know my PSU is good, though I’ll basically be doing a full overhaul otherwise. With some of the programs I’ve been messing with have been pushing the limits of the 2x8gb kit I have, my RX570 isn’t where I’d like it to be, and if I upgrade my CPU, I’ll probably need to get a different cooler while I’m at it.

Yeah it’s better that way, and speaking about cooling I am still sticking with my Deepcool Assassin 3, for it has been doing a hell of a job maintaining reasonable idle temps even though I live in an area where it can get humid and hot, but my oh my it’s still an impressive CPU air cooler.

And just think, if Zen4 boards are going to be this expensive then you know that Raptor Lake boards are going to be just as, if not even more expensive when they launch later this year.

Now, I’ve just started watching this, but if this is real and not AMD pulling a prank, this might just make them look even stupider than monitor makers.

You know those times where its the middle of the night and you extremely tired after a long day, which is the perfect time to start messing around with you hardware, even though you know its an awful idea…

Well i just did that and almost gave myself a fucking heart attack…

So recently my temps have unusually high, now it is hotter but these were temps that i should not be hitting, im running a 5800X with a 360 EK AIO in a corsair 4000D airflow. When i built the system i would be idling 40-42C, and with a full stress test (on the GPU and CPU) barely hit 72C at most.
But recently i was hitting 58-62 at idle when gaming or working it would still keep under 80.

So bit of bizarre behavior, so i figure lets repaste the CPU see what happens, of course i had this brilliant idea at midnight on a weekend after a really long day.

Long story short,
1st time i remounted the AIO block without the springs that distributes the pressure on the CPU, getting 85+ at idle, immediately took it apart

2nd time i was so stressed out that i mounted the springs the wrong way so basically the block was not making contact with the CPU, which cause the system to shut down right after turning it on

This is the part where you start thinking worst case scenario
“Did i brick my motherboard/CPU somehow?”

3rd time took it slow, remounted everything and the triple checked everything, which got me back to where is started…

And after some digging around - turns out that the issue was after some update the Lian li and MSI software stopped playing nice. MSI was lowering the pump speed to a crawl, even though the lian li software was ramping up the fans…
god dammit i hate all this BS software

I feel this deep in my soul. I’ve had that “Oh god…what have I done” moment on more than one occasion.

Does the AIO require software running in Windows?

It’s under the motherboard software, while the fans controlled via another piece of software. The Lian li controller doesn’t like MSI software so it’s easier to set through its own software (also its way easier to use and less buggy than MSI’s)

and this is why I stick with simple hardware and minimal software. they always fuck up

I mostly installed it for bios updates and to make a custom fan curve but MSI’s software had issues with Lian li’s controller so had to download their fan software to make it work properly

EVGA and Nvidia are cutting ties… Can’t say I’m not a little concerned for how things are going to play out
