The hardware, nor the software is the main issue with AMD GPUs. AMD’s pricing structure for the past two launches creates the perception that they are overpriced when comparing them to the Nvidia counterpart (they lowered the prices after the mind share damage was done).
I currently own a RX 6950xt which I got well towards the end of that generation’s sales for $580. My prior GPU was an EVGA GTX 1080ti which was the last Nvidia GPU to give a great performance uplift for the money.
I remember when AMD acquired ATI, and I owned the 2600xt. AMD made a mistake buying ATI, since they fell on hard times shortly there after. The Radeon R&D budget got cut to allow them to focus on CPU architecture (after Bulldozer being a big flop).
The pricing just got released for the RX 9070 & 9070xt, but we shall see if the performance is there at that price.
Benchmarks, don’t fail me now! Just tossed a 9700X in my machine and I’m rocking a 3080 I bought off of a friend that ended up with an extra one (Newegg lottery back in the day), so if the 9070XT performs well enough and I can sell my 3080 12Gb for a reasonable sum, it seems like a solid intermittent upgrade (I only play 1440p/120+ hz). There’s also supposed to be some gains from pairing Zen 5 with RDN4 architecturally, but kinda waiting to see if there’s any actual benefit there.
MLID put out a video stating that we should expect the 9070xt to be a little above MSRP (no reference models). It should still cost less than the 5070ti though.
Hey guys, this is how i am usually listening to music when i am sitting on the couch.
My setup is plugged into the Computer via a long USB cable.
Yesterday i must have generated an electrostatic load with my Rubber soled slippers on the carpet which got transmitted over to the computer which shut down and Not does not start anymore.
Did i fry my mainboard?
What should i do to find Out whats broken?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Is there power still being supplied to the motherboard? Check if the indicator lights are lit on the motherboard. It is kind of hard to troubleshoot hardware issues remotely without more information.
If there is no power being supplied to the motherboard, do you have another power supply handy to see if the PSU is bad?
Thanks for both of your answers!
Taking the power away over night and trying another power cable did not help unfortunately…also i can not see any light on the motherboard…guess i might have really fried it
ouch, rubber + carpet is quite the deadly combo I would think.
I assume the electrostatic load got carried via the usb cable in which case the first entry point in the pc would be the motherboard.
That´s what i though…and unfortunately it was also plugged directly into the mainboard on the backside and not in one of the USB ports in the front…don´t know if this makes a difference…in my imagination at least
Probably not, dont think there is anything extra ESD protection there, the front is just a more convenient placement for some usb connections.
But damn, a dead pc right now…is terrible considering the state of the GPU world…although if you dont need a DGPU and an IGPU is fine then at least its not a worry for you.
