Let's talk about computers

Not if it was electrocuted via that cable it wont do, but the floor could still be an issue I think. Higher up also makes it less dusty.

aah now i get what you mean.
The computer was not standing on the carpet though

I wonder if something like this would do.

Have you tested the PSU? I
A failing PSU would also most likely produce a shock you would feel if the shielding fails.
The likelihood of an ESD charge frying a mother board nowadays is super rare so I’d try some low hanging fruit options first / see if you can save some replacement money.

You can jumper the PSU pretty easily to see.

Is that only on newer motherboards? Maybe their pc is ancient (like mine) lol.

Pretty much everything for the last 10-15 years depending on model

Thanks for the input!
I am absolutely not the technical guy but I know someone who can help me to test this!

In case your impatient…

Thanks for that! A friend will bring his multimeter to test.
As I have another solution currently I am quite patient

This :point_up_2:

You can make one using a speaker banana plug and a wire. (Presuming you’re in the US or UK. This will work anywhere there’s a grounded outlet but the banana plug may not fit or stay…)

That’s it. Connect a piece of metal at the end of the wire to ‘finish’ it if you want so it can sit next to your listening spot. The key is before you touch the USB cable, touch the grounding wire. This will discharge the dangerous high voltage potential stored in your body. You only need to touch it for a moment but be prepared you might get a little snap. The same snap that likely toasted your motherboard

Do this anytime you walk across the carpet and sit down

Guys, is this the first time in my life that I am finally being proven wrong by AMD when it comes to their GPU prices? As for me, I’ll see about that when amount of stocks and availability comes into play, and if they are able to manage that to happen or make it at least more a possibility than Nvidia’s, then I’ll eat my own words. For now though, I am still skeptical about them, the prices doesn’t mean shit if there is no availability and stock, not to mention some of the pieces of shit scalpers that are going take advantage of it as well.

3 questions needs to be answered.

  1. Stock/availability, msrp means nothing if there is no “stock” like Nvidia is doing.

  2. Waiting for 3rd party reviews to check if the performance claims are legit.

  3. To check if there arent any stupid issues like the missing Rops and all that shit on Nvidia or the CPU overhead issues on Intel.

Even then I still think we have gotten normalized to such high prices…

And this is sad but true. You know what is even the worst part about it? People still buy it regardless of the price. I really miss the days back then when most PC parts are at a reasonable price, those days are really gone. I guess it’s one of those reasons on why lately I am not really that excited anymore on new tech.

people have tested motherboards building charge and intentionally zapping them, the amount of static a person can hold shouldn’t do anything if all is in good condition afaik

people spending $6k on 5090’s, some people just need the latest and greatest I guess lol

And the so called “greatest” will be damn outdated immediately and then they’re gonna do it again on the same upcoming GPUs. Doing the same thing expecting different results in the end. The only thing that can be like that for me nowadays would be the CPUs, for my 5800X3D rig remains damn strong still to this day, and yes I consider it as one of the greatest CPUs of all time.

Yeah, this wouldnt be a thing if people just stopped buying…it baffles me when I see people wanting to upgrade from their mid/high tier stuff even after just 1-2 gens…

My 4670k has served me damn well, 12 years in fact and may last longer than 2 whole GPUs. As my first 780 just died on me after like 6-7 years or so (just had to die during mining boom…) and now my current 1060…may start showing some symptoms…

I have been building PCs for near 25 years now, and I have only owned two Intel CPUs in that time (the rest AMD of course). The one that stood out was the i7 2600k which I had OCed to 4.6 Ghz for 3 years strait using a Cooler Master v6 air cooler. The Asus P67 motherboard I was using died (overworked most like due to OC), but the 2600k lived on in a friend’s system.

I 2nd the 5800X3D as being a great upgrade for those who invested into the AM4 socket early on. Swapped out my 3700x for the 5800X3D, and noticed quite a difference.

Like I said before Nvidia hasn’t had a compelling product that fell below $700 for quite some time. Probably why I held onto my GTX 1080ti for so long (until I picked up the RX 6950xt at the end of that gen’s sales). Hopefully AMD’s RX 9070/9070xt are good offerings bellow that $700 price point, but we don’t have much longer to wait to find out.

3 days, my 6750 is almost worth as much as I paid for it if I trade it in so most likely trying to snag one asap

Most like due to the older cards no longer being available new. Most of the old stock dried up or is being sold for more than it is worth.
