Let's talk about computers

Should tell you how bad the state of the GPU world is…

Indeed, I have told most people I know (who I have advised in the past) to sit this gen out. We will see if AMD can change my mind regarding that. :smirk:

I wish I could sit this out…

That is why I said “most people”, if you need a new PC then you don’t really have a choice. It sucks that your upgrade fell within 2025. Hopefully you can find some combo deals or something to try to keep cost down with other parts.

Yeah, 12 whole years and it ended up being maybe the worst year to upgrade ever…

got it secondhand for like $250 last year, new ones are like $300 atm, trade in value of $200

That is really unfortunate right there, you hate to see video cards that you have been with since day 1 and have been reliable for your use just inevitably slowly die in the end. I really hope some of us can get that proper upgrade at some point but it’s gonna take a lot effort nowadays to even get a midrange card, which is crazy for me to fathom even today.

I get it technology evolves quickly but at the same time it’s a fucking bullshit excuse for some of the cards to be priced really high for a fucking midrange card! You know what I prefer nowadays than new video cards? Games that are actually fixed, optimized and not damn broken of a mess?!

Yes, feels like modern games are relying on hardware muscle to carry their shit instead of optimizing it themselves…

too many cooks in the kitchen in a lot of cases
one of the main devs from fallout 1 or 2 was brought in to work on a project he told them a system he wanted implemented, they told him it would take 2 weeks, he wrote the code out on a whiteboard in 2 minutes, they revised to 1 week… lmao

RTX 4070 reviews are out and it’s underwhelming (unsurprisingly). This is one of the worst Nvidia generations ever when you factor in how meaningless the MSRP’s are. Hopefully AMD’s 9070 is actually $600 or close to it.

Im more curious about the prices of the 9060. Dont think I have seen any rumors about that card at all…

Are you looking for a sub $400 card? Or did you need a low power option?

Yeah sub 400 for sure as prices would be much higher in Sweden anyway…

Example that Intel B580 with 250 USD msrp is around 380 usd here…

I be happy if its a big improvement over my 1060, im only on 1080p so it really shouldnt be that hard…

Yeah it’s rough outside the US.
Also funny thing about the B580 is it isn’t available here at $250 either. I’m not sure if people keep buying them or Intel is not even trying to produce enough. Unfortunately I think it’s the latter.

Will see how AMD goes I guess, Intel has that big CPU overhead issue where even the Ryzen 7600 is bottlenecking with it…

Still on 8GB!!!

If it’s cheap, then it might be alright. But honestly I’d avoid 8GB even if gaming at 1080P. If next gen consoles get higher RAM capacity again, then vram requirements are likely to continue creeping higher

for 1080p 8GB should be fine but with some of these super unoptimised games using over 10gb at least with max/ultra textures…
most of the crazy graphics games to come out the last few years that were decently optimised only use like 10-12GB at 4k lol

Yeah…not exactly future proofed…

AMD never fails to fail.

Funny thing is that Inet said a few days ago that everyone that wants one (AMD card) will get one…sure but not at msrp…
