Let's talk about computers

I thought Brave was in hot water for something so I stopped using it a while ago lol

surprised firefox is planning that because so far everything has been opt in

They do have a lot of controversies sadly.

The New CEO is probably the “why”

btw how is it going with your proxmox server?

Tried to setup garage for unraid appdata backups with alpine in lxc.

(will adjust the cpu and max ram lol.)

And another one with alpine with NFS share.

Crazy how little ram Alpine uses. I am not running VMs if i dont have to since they prevent C-states. With my current 3 LXC containes im idling around 12w with it.

On hold for now

And if things aren’t bad enough:

GPU’s will never go back to MSRP at this rate.

Then there’s the news of Samsung Semiconductor rejecting an order for ram from their own subsidiary Samsung Electronics for phone ram.

And another rumor that Samsung is pulling out from SATA SSD Manufacturing which they have denied.

This?

Yeah its rip the pc world.

Yeah and they denied it.

I doubt their denial. They already refused their own subsidiary.

And what an excellent time for Valve to make another Steam Machine /s

This maybe the ultimate goal of these “Corpos” as they know the average person has already accepted paying for convenience (buy everything, own nothing). Streaming services, gaming, getting into debt, all of these was slowly fed down the throats of people and the average individual just took it in and went with it.

The end goal will be just selling subscriptions to giant server farms to do your everyday computing. This is how I view things with the trend of how these corpos have manipulated the entire market.

Yeah this is exactly what i fear and one big reason why I just decided to hoard everything I actually care about…including games and even setting up some mmorpg servers.

most of the “stream a PC” have kinda been a flop from what I’ve heard (and several have shut down) wouldn’t put it past them to try to force everyone into buying pre-builts to control the market though

I think even if they want to force “offboard computing” there’s gonna be a bubble (they have neither the power generation nor the physical space for all of the servers and components they want to use), and it’s gonna pop sooner than later if either VC funding dries up or they can’t stay solvent long enough to profit. I wouldn’t panic until we’re in the same spot or worse this time next year. In the meantime, “Just Wait(c)”.

The thing is NVIDIA Geforce Now isn’t flopping. That’s the reason they are pushing all of this. They’ve seen the numbers. At the start of the year subscriptions for the service were all sold out. And now they’ve partnered with other server providers to provide more servers in specific regions. My region in the world alone has 2 different providers. And I know several people who have a subcription to Geforce Now for more than a year and they haven’t had the desire to even upgrade their PC’s.

Yeah I actually have a guy in my discord server that also uses Geforce Now and he also has a few servers.

I think it would be more likely that they shut down geforce now to run remote AI model farms than commit more resources to it as they’ve shown time after time they don’t care about their gamers market lol

They may do that but I following how NVIDIA goes to where the money is. NVIDIA makes huge profits from selling the AI cards to companies without the need to spend on building a facility to run their own and all the logistics associated with running their own servers.

Building AI servers wouldn’t make a lot of money for them as the electricity needed alone is gonna be astronomical. Which has been a reason for a lot of people receiving an increase in their electricity bills. Corporate accounts have a deal with Power companies that provide them the extra power they need even at peak hours. These are the usual cause of power outages in bigger cities. And they also get it a lower price that’s subsidized by regular customers like us.

Should be perfect for you since you got a rack iirc.
