Let's talk about computers

Seems to be my mobo gonna see if i can get in touch, lost yet another ram slot it seems. Now im running on one.

Ill give them tips ago too.

Defo rings a bell mate but again my memory is shit, pc and irl it seems xD

Well emailed ASUS and ill see what they say when they get back to me. As I legit only have 1 working ram slot atm XD

RIP bought myself one of the new b550 boards found out I could have abough a Asus x570 tuf for slightly less. . Weirdly enough buyer’s remorse hasn’t really left because I kinda hated the fact that the x570 chipset needed active cooling and I basically just bought a x470 board without sli support but with really good vrms and gen 4 pcie that I know probably won’t benefit me

I’m going to that thing where I’m only gonna accept the findings of one reviewer that makes me not feel bad for my purchase

TBH, the only X570 board I’m really considering (IF IT EVER GETS IN STOCK) is the Tomahawk.

I dont get the big fuss bout active cooling? Ive had mobos before have it and been fine. Sure its one extra fant to break but still to this day ive had 0 fans break on me.

@RiceGuru I also wanted the Tomahawk when I wanted to build mine but at that time it didn’t have built in wifi so I ended up choosing the Carbon. The Tomahawk is a great mobo.

The tomahawk line are great boards for the price can’t deny that.

I don’t think it’s a big deal I’m just trying to convince myself I made an ok decision lol.

I did little to no research before buying the board I just know the tomohawk line is fairly impressive vrm wise. And this time around looking tmat the vrm temperatures beating boards more than it’s price means I can get some awesome OCs off this board

I initially hated active cooling when they announced it VM because it adds noise and it’s not really something a new builder can easily replace. I don’t mind it too much these d
Says cause once I started building with these boards I realized it didn’t really add any noise. But the replace thing I kind of take issue with but the more I think about it I’ve never really had to swap fans out unless it was like a unmaintained 6 year old build

Well i mean ur new mobo us newer being B550 than B570 xD. And yeah they all have their quirks think gamers nexus goes into detail about what each mobo manufacturer is good at and their quirks.

He talks about it in this long as video just ripping ASrock apart for this shite mobo

I wish he wouuld do a video on brand quirks and why u would buy one over other.

That would be really cool I find it all differsbased on each builder’s experiences. I have a buddy that has had 2 gigabyte boards fail him the past 2 years on his own personal rig but somehow keeps buying gigabyte but we are both fans of Asus and he keeps not buying the boards that I like from them for some reason and just buys gigabyte. Regardless of both mine and his experiences. Neither of us buy ASRock though. It’s usually MSI or Asus for both of our builds that we do for people mainly cause of how easy it is to RMA with their boards where we live as with MSI I can just drive for an hour and hand it off directly to the msi RMA office. And Asus has always been good to us RMA wise

Yeah haha, ur mate sounds like he really likes that board xD. Ive contacted ASUS recently bout my board and their support was great and basically politely told me to fuck off cos its over 5 years old. But still gave some tips to try and help at least. Its lasted so long I cant really be mad tbh especially to say its basically on 24/7. I may try an ASRock board in future depending on whats best for chipsent I want. I personally arnt quite keen on MSI’s bios and just really like asus bios as it has 2 modes xD.

With every generation, other brands make the mistake of their neighbour.

Yeah too true but like a lil video of wat they normally do would be nice. Cos Im sure MSI does their memory config and vrms different to say ASUS. They defo make different decisions with their VRMS. Ik ASUS use less but higher quality VRM parts where as like ASRock use more but less quality, generally.

there is literally no reason to overclock anymore, except for fun…or you’re rich. the power draw by the CPU alone on an overclocked chip is absolutely insane. was reading about one of the newer i7’s at 5.2ghz on all cores was pulling more than 350w. that’s a blistering amount of heat you need to have advanced cooling for the CPU and then you have the crazy power bill running that and the A/C to keep you cool while sitting at the damned thing. actually…there is one more reason to do this. you have a small ePeen, LoL!

most gains aren’t overly impressive anymore either now that turbo’s and performance boos algorithms are getting so refined. single core boosts, two core boosts, all core boosts and jumping between them depending on the needs at that moment.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the performance of the new Renoir APU’s…especially since they’re supposed to be on the matured 7nm design and have a higher Infinity Fabric clock speed, which will be particularly beneficial for the iGPU performance.
