Let's talk about computers

I would not suggest ASUS right now. They don’t seem to have a handle on a few issues. Multiple USB issues, (especially USB 2.0 ports, which Gigabyte already fixed), DOCP issues, etc. I think I’ve had three of their boards so far, they were all great until this one. I’ll definitely be trying a different brand in my next build.

keeps the scalpers away

it seems the USB issues can be mitigated by simply turning of USB C-state in the BIOS. from the reading I did earlier, ever since Gigabyte released the F11k BIOS, most USB problems are dealt with, though some still report no changes. it also seems that boards with 4 USB port stacks have the most issues.

Dell G7 7790, GTX 2080 80w, Intel core i7 9750h, 16gb ram, 512 ssd, 240hz screen.

It’s ok, pretty disappointed with the 80w gpu, wish I could have just build a home theater gaming PC but I needed a laptop for work (at the time when I got it and we could still leave the house)

The ones I’m encountering aren’t so easily mitigated. I’ve spent many hours reading about the issue.

question for those that know more about the internal workings of PC’s than me.

how do you install / setup NVMe M.2 SSD riser cards?

I just bought the Gb B550M Aorus Pro-P which supports two NVMe SSD;'s, but I have 3x 1TB Kingston A2000, so am thinking about grabbing a riser for those two and eventually putting in a much higher capacity drive in the second mobo slot when I’ve got the coin.

I’m open to riser recommendations as well as the only one I can find from a reputable name is from StarTech and it’s a small fortune.

If it is a riser with just a single PCIe M.2 slot, you just plug it in. Most UEFI’s will just find the SSD as boot device.

With PCIe-risers that have multiple M.2 slots, you may need to enable PCIe-bifurcation in UEFI before the drives show up.

I have not seen complaints about this one, no hands on experience though.

I think HP also makes one similar to the ASRock one. Not sure.

Another something I forgot:
Some NVME-risers have PCIe switches on them. With those you don’t need bifurcation support on the motherboard, cost is way higher compared to passive risers.

Looking to FINALLY build my own computer, this is what i have in mind so far:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tpzRy4

Any help or info would be nice, will end up getting a graphics card down the road, hopefully…but I’m looking for something that is SOLID, not too much gaming, but solid enough for versatility. Budget is under 1k, but lower the better, just looking for advice on what i picked, thank you!

That CPU doesn’t have a videochip so you’ll need to either get a different CPU or buy a GPU right away I’m afraid.

how would this do? https://randalls-bean.mybigcommerce.com/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3060-ti-8gb-gddr6-pci-express-4-0-graphics-card-steel-and-black/

That has to be a scam, there’s no way a 3060 ti goes for that little money…
I’d make sure to only buy from reputable stores, especially with the current conditions on the GPU market.

What use case do you need to cover? (Office tasks, CAD, 3D-Modeling, Video editing, Gaming, etc.)

If all you need is an office box that can play some games, ASRock A300 with a Ryzen 5 3400G may be all you need.

Mainly office tasks, streaming, and gaming. RPG mostly. 4k video. How would this office box perform vs my build?

could this get me by?

the 1650 is a pretty damn good card for the money will run most last gen games at medium to maxed settings @1080p above 60 fps. if this is a carry over card to hold you down till things get in stock going used may be thee route instead of new. you could even get a 1650 super which brings you from less than 1060 performance to about 1070 performance. there are also ways to get windows 10 (hint hint nudge nudge) for like $3.to save you some cash.

would love to hear about the windows 10 thing ahaha

but yes, something to just hold me over

thanks for the info

Fine for playing MOBAs (League, Heroes, etc.), would do okay for video editing.

As you mentioned streaming, the A300 as a platform would not work since it is limited on cooling and does not allow for GPUs.

The 1650 was lower then an RX 570. Absolutely go for the Super variant.
