šŸ”¶ Letshuoer S12

I just have the equalizer to work with, so no to the Q values. nymz was able to help me with getting my Kinda Lava EQā€™d to a Mahina type level, and I have a picture maybe this will help?

I see. Without Q values, unfortunately to my knowledge thereā€™s no true way of getting the absolute correct EQ. Iā€™ll be happy to help you for sure get those values, though. Youā€™re trying to EQ the Z12 to Mele or Kai, correct?

Iā€™m just hoping to get close and then go from there, I suppose my main mission is to bump up the midbass a good bit properly so I can take a bit of the edge off the Z12 and get a better sense of atmosphere/immersiveness from the midbass at the same time unless Iā€™m wrong so I thought any of those three were a good place to start. Kai isnā€™t up on squiglink yet though just a heads up. So short answer is yes lol

Okay, so - according to the graphs, on paper, the Mele for example, actually has about the same if not a little less mid bass as the Z12, with the Z12 having a few dBs more Sub bass:

(graph credit: @hawaiibadboy)

The difference being, the Z12 has quite a lot more Upper mids and treble, which is probably causing a psychoacoustic artifact of the Z12 sounding like it has less mid bass. I would actually leave the bass region alone if I were you and work around the 6k-8k region, bringing those sliders down;

And see where that takes you. Iā€™ve attached the EQ values if you want to try to change the entire FR up to 15k. As you can see, at 7600 hZ, thereā€™s a whopping 11+ dB difference ā€¦

Try tweaking the 8k slider down around 5dB and see where that takes you and go from there. Luckily, planar drivers take well to EQ. One tip, if you end up increasing any part of the EQ, make sure you bring down the Pre-amp portion to match the increase to reduce distortion.

Best of luck, brother and happy listening :handshake:

@RockinDave did you ever get that working, brother?

Hey man!
Yeah I gave it a shot just with the -5db since that seemed to be my biggest deal with the sound signature and it did make a good difference! :smile:Just wish I could find myself loving the planar timbre on the Z12 and not be feeling like Iā€™m missing the feel of a good ole DD :upside_down_face:
How about you when it comes to planars, feel the same way I do?

Iā€™m happy to hear that dude! Iā€™m glad the 5dB tweak made a positive difference. For me, I do not perceive Planar timbre as much as I do BA timbre, so itā€™s actually no issue for me. I thoroughly enjoy the Timeless and a sizable amount of people claim the dreaded Planar Timbre on those, I just donā€™t hear it. But hey, If itā€™s not for you then itā€™s not for you - just be grateful itā€™s coming from experience on a sub $200 set and not a Kilobuck set or something crazy like that.

Damn these are some really good iemā€™s. The clarity is MUAH. Really good with math/swancore music.

I have never heard the term ā€œswancoreā€ before. Genre names are really starting to crack me up. :joy: Either way, HTS are pretty good. I have them on a playlist with Pierce the Veil, Sleeping with Sirens, Atreyu, Falling in Reverse, Bring me the Horizonā€¦you get the picture. And youā€™re right, the S12s are perfect for fast and technical genres and they also do the clean male vocals of this style very well, IMO. I have my S12s modded, but even before I did they mods they I dug 'em for this kinda music.

The genre is a derivative of Mathcore. Which both have been around a long time now.

Itā€™s not a ā€œnewā€ genre, but it sounds brutal and very technical on the S12. From a technical point of view, the S12 does better than most hybrids :metal: .

I still maintain that the S12 is the best planar out there right now, barring some very expensive ones over $1000!

What other planars have you listened to below 1k? I am asking for a friend who is also a metalhead and looks for something fast and techncal

I have listened to some in my friends: 7Hz Timeless, 7Hz x Crinacle, DUNU, PD1 (I have it, but it is a hybrid), Tin HiFi P1. Of the more expensive ones, only the Simphonio P10 (Iā€™ve only tried it for 15-20 minutes).
I can say that S12 kills them all for metal and is close to P10. I havenā€™t listened to others now. Maybe the CA Supermoon will be better or much better, but itā€™s $1500.
But tell your friend about the planar timbre - he might not like it, although on S12 it is not bad. I still technically prefer DD for metal.

Thought Iā€™d post this here for anyone interested.

anyone here have one? please post your impressionsā€¦

My Glamdring has been out on tour too long for immediate impressions, but they are wide, balanced and the bass hits HARD. They are nothing like a stock S12 from my experience, almost like a final evolution of what an S12 could be if you wanted it less V-shaped and more immersive. For the money, I canā€™t think of a planar that I like more (although I do need to A/B with my P1 Max once they return to me, but they are also different tunings). I believe @cal_lando should have my pair when he gets his Fat Earth in, which is another Michael Bruce mod, so he can do comparisons between the two.

Iā€™ll def do a comparison review on the glam/fat Earth once I get a hold of them. I should be able to get a fat Earth impression out next week but probably wonā€™t have the glams in hand until closer to the end of the month

I saw a video of short is where he talked about an iem that used the same driver than OG dark magician. Is the fatEarth the result of a modding of said iem?

I believe the S12 is also the starting IEM for Fat Earth; The Dark Magician driver was in the XSL X-One, a single DD. Iā€™m not entirely sure what happened with that project.
